Hi everyone,
I seem to have some problems with the installation of win 7.

I have a win 7 ultimate x86 bootable DVD that i know for sure it works (installed win 7 on a desktop, a lapptop and an eeepc).

here is my issue: i put the dvd in, i restard, my first boot option is DVD. the laptop starts, passes bios checkup, spins the dvd for about 10 seconds ( the screen is black), and then just boots from HDD into win xp. this happens every time. I dont even get to the "press any button to boot from cd/dvd" part.

when i enter winxp, and put the win7 dvd, it recognizes it, i even did the compatibility check. so the dvd must be working properly.

but the weirdest part is, that when i put a win7 x64 DVD, it boots, and tells me that i dont have x64 hardware.

i have tried every trick that i know of, but i cant seem to boot from win 7 dvd. by the way, this is the second tested win7 disc that i try.

i am using a packard bell mz35-u005 laptop, 1.5gb of ddr2, 1.6 dual core intel processor, 80gb ide seagate HDD.

Anyone has any idea that might help? feel free to contact me on my YM: dragoshellu1.

thanks in advance, and sorry for the long post.

thank you for the quick answer, and sorry for posting in the wrong location.

i checked the links you directed me to, and:

1. i ran compatibility check, and the only issue was my wlan driver

2. my dvd WILL NOT BOOT AT ALL. i explained, the laptop spins it for about 10 seconds, and then enters windows xp. the strange thing is that the x64 dvd boots with no problem. with the x86 one i cant do anything.
PS: the dvd is known to work fine, and i can see the contents of the dvd under win XP.

i will try tomorrow a complete format of the HDD, and try then to install win 7 fresh. i will also make a boot disc using usb/dvd tool. i dont think i can boot from usb stick, because i dont have USB option in my bios boot menu. today i also upgraded my bios, with the latest version from Packard Bell website.

i ran the checklist, and i told you, the compat check was ok (except for my wlan card), but i can't seem to get the x86 dvd to boot. dvd option is first in bios boot menu, and also the x64 dvd boots succesfully. thanks

Flash stick is often listed under HD's on one-time Boot Menu given on first BIOS screen.

You can also plug it in and look in BIOS setup to see if it shows up in boot order list, often under HD's.

Hello and welcome.
Just another hint that might help you. I would try to remake the DVD by extracting the files on an hard drive and create a bootable DVD with the extracted files. Prefarrably on the laptop you want to install it on. You can use Nero (the trial is enough) and be sure to check "Make the DVD bootable" and burn it at low speed.

I hope I am of help.

Was the x86 DVD purchased as a retail DVD or was it a burned DVD ? If burned at what speed ? The laptop DVD drive may not be reading it at the proper speed, therefor missing the boot on the x86 DVD !

hi everyone and thanks for the replies.

i'll answer in order:
1. i don't get usb boot option, even with flash drive in place at start
2. the dvd is burned at 2x, i tried 4 dvd's that are known to work, 2 of them burned at 2x, one at 4x and one retail, and still no boot. the x64 DVD still boots fine

i have been trying for 2 days to get my win7 running, formatted my entire HDD to do a clean install, but still no results.

i'm back to win xp pro sp2, and i think this is where im gonna stay until a new laptop

thanks all

I would stop wrestling with that rogue dvd. IDK, what edition it is but as long as you have your product key safe, you can download an identical copy off the internet or borrow from a friend.

Try extracting the DVD files to desktop using PowerISO or WinRAR, then run Setup.

Flash stick won't show up until it is bootable, which is created by using the steps in tutorial linked.
