So I'm trying to upgrade from the 6801 build (32-bit) to the 7100 build so both my laptops are on the same build.... 7100 is way more stable also..

Anyways I put in my Win7 7100 DVD, restart the comp... I hit a key to boot from CD, it tries to boot and comes up with a screen that says:

"Windows boot Manager"

Error I/O

0xc00000e9

And I cant get 6801 off this comp. It's now starting be become unstable, it will blue screen and restart on my often......

I need help guys! Please!

What's goin on with my comp?

Everything I have regarding that error is something to do with a USB device. Make sure you remove all USB devices, MP3 players, flash drives, etc..

Also try going into Safe Mode, then restarting and trying the DVD. Don't know, but it might work.

So run my 6801 in safe mode, put in my 7100, restart the comp while in safe mode, and boot from CD?

Oh and I'll take off all my USB connections....

You can try the Safe Mode thing, but mostly everything I read was related to USB devices.

Ok so I tried taking all the USB connections off, and restarting from Safe Mode... No dice.

I have been having disc read problems. It won't read any disc. So I think I need to fix that and that'll fix my problem...

It's a HP zd8000 laptop, light scribe DVD-RW drive.... Any help with finding the drivers for it? Or ones that will work with the 6801 build of Win7?

With such a big jump (many milestones...) have you thought of doing a clean install? It would be alot safer in this case...

I used the same DVD on my other dv1000 HP laptop and it worked flawlessly... So that's what I'm not understanding...

I don't know where to find the right drivers for my DVD drive, and I don't know if it's my HDD that's failing... ???

K so I tried uninstalling the driver for the DVD drive and rebooting, and it takes forever to load what's in it, often freezes explorer...

I should think it has something to do with my DVD drive causing this since it can't read anything that's put into it... It just thinks....

Any options?

The DVD you wanna install from is bootable, so it will boot the install disc before booting the installed OS and loading drivers etc. Perhaps you would better try updating your drive's firmware. When your DVD drive does not boot from the disc and you have already set the right BIOS Boot Up options, it could be that your DVD drive is broken.

I/O error 0xc00000e9 is "An unexpected I/O error has occurred."
That means that something can't read/write to your disks.

This error is most often caused by issues with storage devices - so USB devices are at the top of the list (to include the built in card readers on a lot of systems). I'd suggest disabling the card readers in the system BIOS and trying again.

If that doesn't work, then I'd recommend a hard drive diagnostic to see if this is an issue with your hard drive. More info on that here: Bootable Hard Drive Diagnostics - Vox

It's not a bad copy of Win7. I used the same disc that I'm trying to use on my small laptop and it worked perfectly. My small laptop has been my test subject for all my OS installs since it's worth less, well seems like it's worth more now since it's the only one that works when I ask it to!

--- Let it boot from CD or DVD. ---

Says "windows is loading files"

Gets about 1 tick on the bar and stays there until it gets to this screen:

"Windows Boot Manager"

Windows has encountered a problem communicating with a device connected to your computer.

This error can be caused by unplugging a removable storage device such as an external USB drive while the device is in use, or by faulty hardware such as a hard drive or CD-ROM drive that is failing. Make sure any removable storage is properly connected and then restart your computer.

If you continue to receive this error message, contact the hardware manufacturer.

--- Ok sorry for all the posts guys, but I'm trying to plug in as much info to you guys as I can. ---

When I started the comp with the 7100 disc in but didn't boot from it, went into my computer and could browse the CD. Open the drive and it's still showing that the disc is in the drive, but if I try to open it, it asks to enter a CD or DVD to continue.

I put in a movie DVD, and it still shows the 7100 disc in there. I click on it, and it shows the Audio and Video folders and lets me browse them. Still showing the 7100 disc is in the drive.

I put in my Vista Business DVD, and it says still, the 7100 disc is in the drive.

Now I restarted my big laptop with the Vista DVD in, and booted from the DVD. Without seeing the windows is loading files screen, I get this screen again:

Windows Boot Manager

Is my DVD-ROM drive bad or what? If that's the case, I'll order up a new one tonight. I need this computer working before the end of summer. For school!

Again, both DVD's work and have been used on this computer I'm on Sevenforums with right now. Vista business was on this computer... Then Win7 6801. Now Win7 7100 RC... All starting with XP Home of course.

Help me please guys!
