Hello - I set up usernames on my new computer, with me "John" as having admin privledges. However, when I go into Windows Explorer, c\users, my folder name is "New", instead of "John". Why is this?

When I go into other usernames, my folder also shows up as "New". The other users have their own names on their accounts.

I went into Administrative Tools, Computer Management, Local Users and Groups, Users, and changed my Name from New to John, but that did not fix the problem.

I know this probably isn't serious, but it's a bit of nuisance. Does anyone know how to fix it?

Thanks,
John

Hello John,

Changing the user account name in "User Accounts" in the Control Panel only changes what the name will be displayed as in the Start Menu and at log on. When you change the user account name, both names are tied to the user account afterwards. The user profile folder itself will always retain the original name it had when first created. You cannot just rename the user profile folder without corrupting the use account and getting a user profile error at log on next.

It seems that you may have named it "New" by mistake.

The only way around this would be to create a new adminsitrator account with a name different than the "New" and "John" that you have already used for it and any name you used for other user accounts. :(
