I installed Win 7 Home Prem 32 bit on a new PC from a genwine, bought DVD. All seemed OK. I then installed drivers for a WiFi network card, and an audio card . Both smooth installs it seemmed I have not yet tested the audio card, but the network card conencted as easily as anything have ever experienced in Windows!

Just to jump the gun and get this out of the way: What I finally tried was to first add programms to the Win FW allowed list, and whgen that did not work I tried disabling the Win FW.

However, I tried to run the net card config utility and just got the hourglass: not njust for the app but for the whole of the desktop. I had to hard reset. Tried again and this time only the net config utility locked up. I fired up Task Manager and it showed _two_) of the config ute running, one not responding. I could kill the responding one, but not the unresponsive one. I am not sure why, but although I tried to cancel a shutdown, the machine died anyway.

I tried such generic stuff as Internet Explorer etc. They resulted in a few seconds of hourglass and no further activity. Task Man showed nothing running.

SO I am lost. Anyone help, please?

Any help appreciated. I have delayed this setup for a week, because I was afraid of just this sort of thing. I was very happy that everything seemed to have been so smooth....I should have known.

Nick

Re install windows, this time just run all rounds of windows update. Then look at device manager for any needed drivers.

This time follow the steps in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles everything that works best in tens of thousands of installs we've helped with here, and has been used by over a million consumers without a single complaint or return with problems.

Pay close attention to how drivers are handled which is important enough those steps are in red.

Thanks for the replies. But how do get all Win updates and drivers if I can't even run my browser?

This is explained in Clean Reinstall Windows 7 if you'll only read and follow the steps that have been used by a million consumers without a single complaint:

Just in case, save in advance your Wireless or Ethernet LAN (wired) driver in your backup so if it isn't provided during install you can install it to get online quickly. These can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model PC. The exact make/model will be listed in your Device Manager under Network Adapters.

You put your network drivers on a flash drive or cd before you start.

You get them from the manufacturers website.

You said you had no problem with the network card in your 1st sentence.

I don't get your point. It's the programmes that are not working, not the network and I did not bring up[ the network drivers at all. I have a CD/DVD with the netcard drivers on it and they are therefore available to me already.

Bah! I feel harried and set upon. Enough.
