So Im guessing I want to use option 3?

Yes, option 3 will wipe your XP partition & then you can create a new formatted one.
I hope you have everything saved that you want.

How many of the troubleshooting steps given at the beginning have now been done? These are the known fixes for the failure:

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the DVD yourself? Confirm ISO and burn another DVD using ImgBurn at 4x speed.

Next try writing ISO to flash stick. You can extract ISO from retail DVD using ImgBurn, then write using this tool with Win7 in showing the drop-down menu: Universal USB Installer – Easy as 1 2 3 | USB Pen Drive

Next try wiping the HD using Diskpart from DVD Command Line:
Clean and Clean All with Diskpart Command
DISKPART At PC Startup

Next reset the CMOS: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Clear the CMOS - Reset BIOS
While in BIOS set SATA controller to AHCI to try install, then IDE if necessary.

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals.

As a last resort, move HD to install Win7 in another machine, then SysPrep HD to move back to problem machine: SysPrep to move HD to another computer

In addition test your memory: RAM - Test with Memtest86+ and your HD: HD Diagnostic using extended CD scans.

PW CD will autostart to wipe the HD from Disk tab, then Win7 installer should autostart. But installer may boot if you reset the CMOS, use flash stick for install, unplug everything.

1. Tried the install DVD I got in the mail this morning, no luck
2. Dont have a 4GB flash stick
3. Cant get far enough into install to use diskpart
4. tried resetting CMOS
5. unplugged everything else
6. dont have another machine.

I am using another program to wipe the drive now. I will let you know what develops.

This could also be caused by bad RAM. It would be worth while testing it.

Download Memtest86+ (you want the 2nd one Download - Pre-Compiled Bootable ISO (.zip)). Unzip it then create a CD from the iso file using your CD burning software. There is a good freeware burner called ImgBurn which will do this easily.

Boot the CD and run for at least 3 complete passes unless it shows errors sooner than that.

Edit: Sorry Greg, somehow missed that you had already posted the memtest idea.

Well wiping the HD was the solution, I've got win 7 up and running.
