Solved Win 7 installation woe

8Gb Ram
250Gb Western Digital Hard drives (spinners)
Win 7 pro 64bit.

Bought a Win 7 installation disc from a well known computer shop on the internet complete with license key. My problem is that on a clean on installation I get 'Loading files' after that nothing, just a blank screen and sits there.

I'm wondering if I have the bios set up wrong, I tried and tried and can't 'seem' to get it any further - I did have Mint set up on it, but since then I formatted it on my XP 32bit build. Do I set the bios for Legacy, Native IDE, SATA or some other mode, the bios is seeing the DVD and the hard drive.

I was told that this is what Win 7 does, it loads files and then I just gotta leave it for about half an hour - seems a bit strange to me so I thought I'd join to try and find out here, thanks.

You need to have your Boot Order in your Bios set so that the DVD/CD Drive boots first, the Hard Drive second. Make sure your Boot Order is set correctly. If you are booting to the Hard Drive first then you would not be able to install Windows. The whole Win 7 installation should only take about 45 minutes. Anytime it is loading files there should be a line of dots or something similar that is moving so you know the loading is taking place. When you are booting the PC to install Windows, you should have the Win 7 disc in the DVD drive and you should see white lettering on black screen that says "Press any Key to load from DVD Drive". You then should see a screen that gives you an option to Install Win 7 or Repair Computer (not sure of exact wording). Are you seeing this? == If not sure how to set Boot Order, please ask.

Hi, thanks for the reply.
Yes I have the dvd as the first boot device and the hard drive the 2nd boot device. Upon inserting the CD I get 'Loading Files' and the coloured animation in the middle then the white bar hits the end at the bottom, the display disappears and just sits there with a blank display. I get the 'Press any key to boot' message as soon as the CD is inserted.... it does load itself, which is along the top of the Screen.

Getting tied in knots here, the boot priorities are configured as mentioned then underneath there is the BBS drive priorities shows hard drive as boot number 1 oddly? I've tried booting using various boot modes. Legacy, UEFI, Native IDE & ACHI. at least I reckon I have.

BTW the CPU isn't overclocked and I don't have 'turbo' enabled, which I understand can cause these problems.

I did have win XP and Linux on at one stage, as said I formatted the HDD on my XP 32bit machine prior to my install attempt of Win 7. Thank you again for the reply, Dave.

Set the bios back to defaults by hitting F5 in the Bios, then hit F10 to Save & Exit, try your install again.

You may have a bad installer.

Sorted:
The problem was the VGA monitor went blank after 'loading files', 'starting windows' - it was waiting for my 'input' to select language and keyboard etc., as soon as I clicked 'next' the VGA monitor sprang back to life.... for some strange reason I connected a HDMI lead from the mobo to a TV set.

The VGA monitor wasn't seeing this page kinda thing, I was about to give Win 7 up.
