Hello
I have a sony vaio laptop and i'm trying to reinstall it. I tried the USB key, DVD drive nothing seems to work. i swapped the RAM -> nothing. I put the hard drive in my other computer the install did work! but when i put it back into the laptop win 7 cannot start up and the startup repair wont work.
i put my other hdd in the laptop it works! its so frustrating i cannot seem to install it anymore has been trying it for days now. I tried Win 7 home premium x32 and x64, Win 7 ultimate x32.

The first few times i got this error
Error 0x80070570
but now it goes on and doesnt come up but when it restarts at the installation and trying to set up computer for use then it crashes saying it cannot be optimized for the hardware.

Oh i also tried win xp pro x32 but blue screen at the beggining of the install...
please help :(

Unplug all other HD's and peripherals,

Boot into BIOS setup to enable Legacy BIOS if present. Next check BIOS Boot order for an EFI Boot Disk and if present remove it, set DVD drive first to boot, HD second. Then set SATA controller to AHCI. Save changes and Exit.

Then boot into installer DVD or flash stick burned or written using tool and latest ISO for your licensed OS version here.

At first installer screen Press Shift + F10 to open a Command Box, type:

DISKPART
LIST DISK
SELECT DISK 0 (after confirming Windows 7 target HD #)
CLEAN
CREATE PARTITION PRIMARY SIZE=102400 (for 100gb partition, adjust as desired)
FORMAT FS=NTFS LABEL="WINDOWS 7"
ACTIVE
EXIT
EXIT

Next click Install Now to Clean Install Windows 7 to the partition you created. If it fails then report back at which step and the verbatim error message.

In addition read over these steps to understand the tools and methods which work best to get and maintain a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7. The steps are the same for retail.

i think the hard drive works fine since it was working in my other comp no problem...

Where did you get Win7? Did you burn the disk yourself? Burn another ISO using the link provided.

How do you plan to activate Win7?

i got a home premium serial key with the laptop i bought. but honestly i would be happy enough even to get the trial working but theres nothing!! :S
win 7 burned it myself but i used like 4-5 different ones so far.
win xp original

for usb versions i used YUMI and it should work because it did work on my other comp. so theres no problem with the usb and the images

What trial? There is no trial version of Win7. Use the Product Key for the licensed version you have. If you have Upgrade version then leave the key blank during install and afterwards do the quick registry workaround in Option 3 of Clean Install with a Upgrade Windows 7 Version to Activate Upgrade version on a wiped HD.

What happens when you run the steps I first gave you? They are quite specfiic and solve Installation problems in more than half of cases.

the mem test is still running when its done ill try your solution.
you can give the serial number later (thats what i meant by trial.)
and im always doing clean install. i format and delete the hard drive. then create the new partition and format again then install windows 7

Seems like there is no problem with the hard drive. However i did a mem check in hiren's boot cd and several of them failed. The thing is i switched the RAM from my friend's sony vaio laptop and it still didn't work. Any ideas?
Manufacture warranty expired about a month ago and i dont wanna throw this out it was way too expensive to be a 1 year thing.

You need RAM precisely spec'd for your specific PC before using it. To do this google the PC make/model + memory upgrade to see what choices are presented, compare them by running Crucial System Scanner software to find out what type of memory is in your computer.

Then change to the Google Shopping view to compare prices and availability for ordering your exact specified RAM, or go to the parts counter at a store like Tiger Direct, CompUSA or MicroCenter where they will spec it for you, sell it for a decent price, then be able to replace easier it if it doesn't work.

Until then remove the RAM you moved from another PC without spec'ing it first.

If there is any question about the exact specs, post back here for help.
