The other day I suddenly found that I was without any wifi signals.

To cut a long story short I have trawled the internet looking for answers and tried many different options such as resetting winsock, ip releases, dns flushes, uninstalling and reinstalling the wifi and drivers.

All to no avail.

The wired connection works fine, its just the wifi that has stopped. I am also aware of the wifi 'button' and this makes no difference.

My wifi icon next to the clock has a red cross on it.

Ipconfig shows the wifi connection without a dns or an ip address.

I wondered therefore if anybody could any other advice?

I should add that I have an external ASUS USB N-10 Nano N adapter, that I also tried but despite all the software/drivers being installed fine it does exactly the same as the Win 7 wifi.

You have tried two Network Adapters and none of them work ... That would suggest the fault must be with the Router either a Setting or the Wireless side of the Router has developed a fault ..

I have 5 items that connect to the Router's wifi. This netbook is the only one that cannot.

Any suggestions as to what to try?

I was just going by your Previous Posts that neither of the Adapters could get a Signal .. If that is the case and other Devices work could both be faulty ..

I suppose that is possible.

I wonder if I dare try the USB NANO on my wired desktop Pc. It would prove or disprove whether the NANO works. But I don't want to mess the desktop pc up.

Do not see it doing any harm and it would rule out wither it is working or not ...

status?
trying the nano on another box good root-cause step.
If it works.. I have a simple question. Have you REMOVED power to the laptop and drained it, then tried?
usb ports can and do get hung in an unusable state.

failing that, uninstall in device manager AND remove driver. reboot with no network connection, check to see if it installs a driver again, remove it again and delete driver files until it fails to install. then put on the wired connection and reboot or 'search for driver automatically'.

Thanks again for the replies.

Well I find that the Asus Nano does not work on my desktop pc either.

I've downloaded a Linux Os to try and see if the wifi will work in Linux. Then I might be able to rule out a hardware problem.

Looks to be a Hardware issue but you are right Linux will prove that one way or the other .. At least they not that expensive ...

Well............here I sit on my netbook running Linux Mint with no wifi issues at all. Not only was able to connect straight away but I can also see all the other networks around my area.

So that rules out hardware.

So I guess something must be corrupted or something in my Win 7 system.

I did try a restore but that fails.

Any other suggestions?

This requires some serious thought .. I am pleased you got the WiFi working .. You have tested the Card on two Windows 7 Systems which failed to work .. Leaves me thinking could be a Driver issue ...

Thats my suspicion too but I have been unable to fix the issue by uninstalling and reinstalling so far.

Is there a way to find and remove all networks and network drivers to start from scratch?

When you say Card do you mean taking the netbook apart and physically removing a card from within?
