Solved win-7 OEM registration problem

I bought and registered a win-7 OEM package. The system would not boot after that (blank screen) and had to reformat the drive, re installed win7 Pro.

Wants me to register it.
OK.
Now, it says it can't be registered because it was already done by 'someone else' which is me BTW. No hardware was changed. It's not a bootleg copy, bought it directly from Amazon.

I searched the forum and found win-7 re-registration but for some reason not applicable to OEM packages.
Anyone can figure this out and I can re-register this package will be sent $20 via paypal. Gladly send the money to the first one send me the answer and fix.

Or, a NO CHARGE cust service number to call at MS and they reset it for me. Remember this is OEM and they don't deal with that, unless I pay them for it.... I think.

A few point for anyone who comes along later.....

All the Activation Lines are free - and most are toll-free as well.

Often, if there is a problem at activation, you will need to speak to an operator.
If the automated actvation fails, you should be put in the queue to speak to an operator - this often fails, and hangs up on you.
Call back, and when the automated system asks which service you require, DO NOT respond - this puts you in the queue for an operator, and shouldn't time-out on you. - When they pick up, explain your problem clearly, and they will assist.


Please note that there is a very big difference between 'Registration' and 'Activation'

Activation is mandatory - as part of MS's anti-piracy efforts, and as part of the license that you agredd to when you first installed Windows on your machine

Registration is voluntary, and done only over the internet (AFAIK) - and does very little for you except put you into MS's marketing database. It most specifically has NOTHING whatever to do with your Key (In fact you can 'register' Windows without owning a copy)

It's unusual for a machine to require telephone activation at the second install - but you may have tripped another anti-piracy fuse by doing the secind one so quickly after the first

Thank you for clearing this up a lot

Not sure why my installation of OEM said it need to activate it and then it said already activated but needs to be registered.. again. Your explanation makes sense. If MS would lower the price of their OS then people don't need to steal and make copies. All this does, drives people to Macs and Linus ... hey I was just about to do it. The only thing stopped me because I have a lot of application that I need on windows, Apple don't have it.

Nah - not necessary - I spend most of my days trying to sort out WGA problems for people in the MS forums. Coming here is a little light relief

I do know how frustrating such problems can be (I'll tell you my experience over a beer sometime - it was my own fault, as it turns out, attempting to activate a Key that I acquired through not-so-normal means, and not tagged as such). A little explanation can go a long way to reducing the frustration, and increasing the use.

As far as writing manuals is conerned, I used to spend most of my days writing operator instructions for the paint manufacturing industry - so I'm well aware of the detail that may be required, and the backing information that while not necessary helps to make sense of the instructions. It helps sometimes to review things as I did above, simply to try and get it straight in my own mind.
