WIN 7 on Samsung X10 Installation Problem

Hi guys,

I decided to install WIN 7 on my Samsung X10. I checked all the requirements on the Microsoft page before I decided to do this. Unfortunately, short after booting from the DVD, the installation ends with a blue screen. The BIOS would not fully support ACPI.

So I goggled now for quite a bit and find lots of stuff from different people.
I tried so far with no success:

-less ram
-smaller hard drive
-changing settings in BIOS

My System:

Samsung X10
1400 Mhz Centrino
2 GB RAM
160 GB HD (BIOS only sees 131 GB, like I said, tried with a 40 GB and didn't help)
NVIDIA Geforce Go 4 440 64 Mb
Newest available BIOS from the Samsung support page.

I know there have been a lot of issues with this ACPI stuff but I really tried everything so far. If you guys don't know any solution I guess I need to call it impossible to get WIN 7 running on o Samsung X10.

Perhaps an indication is this thing I found from a Linux user:

"The only problems are the ACPI functions because Samsung did
not use a standard implementation. So you have to use a fixed DSDT table to make ACPI (like monitor battery status etc.) work."

Thanks a lot!!

Installation possible on X10 but....

Hi, I've updated the bios to the newest version (09YE for me):
Official drivers and support for Samsung notebook laptops in Europe

After setting default bios settings you need to disable speedstep in order to install Seven.

BUT you can't reactivate it, if always cause a BSOD. So you are stuck to 600Mhz... :(

....When will samsung upgrade the bios????

I may have found a way to install Win 7 on a Samsung and get the processor to run at full speed.

As previously posted, turn off speedstep in the BIOs and boot to Win 7.
Hibernate your machine
Interrupt the restart (F2 to go to the BIOS page) and reactivate speedstep.

This works for me. Win7 still reports the processor is running at 599 MHz, but every speed checker I've tried reports it's running at full speed.
Programmes I've used that check CPU performance to determine best setup also now report that the CPU is running at full speed.

I have no idea why this should work, or if it really does, or how quickly the battery will get eaten. The battery still lasts over an hour, but I haven't run it right down.

Any thoughts anyone?

Works on x15 plus also

Thanks theig

The disable speedstep, install windows 7, hibernate, re-enable speedstep fix worked for my Samsung X15 plus also.

Looks like my old X15 has some more life left in it now.

Go to the Samsung Support Downloads webpage for your model to download the ethernet or wireless driver and put on a stick or CD. Install it to get online, then do your Windows Updates which will deliver more drivers in Optional after you choose to Automatically get recommended drivers and updates for your hardware.

If any drivers are missing after all updates complete then import them from the Samsung webpage for your model. Some software you need may be there too but it doesn't always work in a Clean reinstall.

These steps will show you how to get a perfect Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7 .

Any one ou t there still have the latest BIOS or win7 drivers? Just managed to dig out my old X10 and would like to possibly update it with latest BIOS & drivers. Sadly it doesn't look like any website is hosting any BIOS/Drivers for this almost 15yr old machine...

Mine's got 04YE BIOS and still running XP. :-)

Accoriding to info on the net
Intel PRO / Wireless LAN controller 2100
Broadcom 440x Wired Network Card Driver.

If you can get the net connection working, SDI is worth trying Snappy Driver Installer download | SourceForge.net

Actually I double checked and the exact components are:

-Intel PRO/Wireless 2100 3B PCI adaptor, latest driver is only for XP BUT works in w7:
Downloads for Intel® PRO/Wireless 2100 Network Connection
-Realtek AC97
-3Com 3C905C-TXM ethernet adaptor

But once I got the wifi working, windows update automatically got the drivers updated for the other components so the key is to GET the wifi drivers working in order to get the rest from the net...
