I am testing out windows 7 64 bit and have run into a problem, I have an old 16 bit application which I understand will not run under windows 7 so I created a virtual pc using MS Virtual PC 2007 and Windows XP Pro, the 16 bit application is running OK on the VM on top of win7 but when I try to use the serial port for printing the response time is very slow and cluggie
Has anyone else run into this situation and ideas on root cause or a fix?

Hello and welcome to the Seven Forums.

First thing to do is to update to latest Virtual PC, which is designed to work better with Windows 7. Free download here: Windows Virtual PC: Home Page

Similar issue, different setup

I'm not putting this post in to piggyback on your issue, I just thought it might help you find an answer knowing of my experience.

I'm running Windows 7 32 bit with an older 16 bit program that uses a Cognitive Blaster label printer running directly through the serial port with no printer drivers. I was running the exact same setup on this system under Windows XP and all was fine. Since upgrading to Windows 7, my labels are printing horribly slow. I am currently toying with baud rates to see if that helps any. I have two serial printers on two systems now running Windows 7 and they are both printing really slowly.

I'm wondering if your issue has less to do with virtualiztion and more with Windows 7 having poorer serial drivers or something.
