WIN 7 search engine issue?

I recently used Systenance Software INDEX.dat viewer version 2.5 to view some browser history. I went to confirm that it found all of the index.dat files on my computer using the WIN7 EXPLORER. I pointed to the particular drive of interest & it indicated fewer files than what Systenance Software INDEX.dat viewer displays. In fact, WINDOWS EXPLORER did not indicate any files existing within the Appdata directory.

Is there some specific feature I need to enable? I already enabled WNDWS EXP to view hidden directories, but it is still not performing searches correctly.

Did you try yet to Rebuild Index - Windows 7 Forums?

Include everything you want indexed and it should cooperate after a rebuild.

I'd always first try to fully utilize the superior Win7 features. Be aware the Index needs some customization when you know what you want included.

WELL, I followed your suggestion & no change. INDEX.dat finds 20 of such files while the WINDOWS EXPLORER finds only 9.

EXPLANATION?

"utilize the superior Win7 features" REALLY, you must be sarcastic.

I have always felt WINDOWS 7 is inferior to XP, but MICROSOFT has to keep the buck rolling.

Anyway, it is not a critical need, but it is ANNOYING that 3rd party software outperforms WINDOWS on its very own platform.

What "such files?"

I have seen no problems with anything I've added to the Index not being found in searches. But then I have not asked it to index more than my User folders, Program Files and External drives. If a file could not be found, I always have discovered it isn't added to the Index.

Often times we see those who insist XP was a better OS have applied XPired methods to installing Win7, which is a new generation OS that is much leaner, doesn't need the tweaks that made XP tolerable and has a whole new generation of tools that work best with it.

If you're open to it, look over Clean Reinstall Windows 7 which compiles everything that's worked best with Win7 since before it was released and been used by 1.3 million consumers without a single complaint or return with problems.

What "such files?"

It would appear all index.dat files located with paths within History.IE5 subdirectories. Of course each username will have such subdirectories so that appears to be the discrepancy. In fact, when you attempt to access these subdirectories directly, you cannot. It is not clear to me if those files still exist. When I right click properties it indicates files & folders do exist within that subdirectory.

I also tried the cmd prompt as ADMIN & that directory was not even displayed.

Did you choose IE History when you rebuilt Index?

Are you trying to index an XP install on the PC?

It is is a straight up WINDOWS 7. I am doing an index rebuild after directing the INDEX OPTION tool to:
C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\History\

I still cannot view the contents & there is no SECURITY tab where I could change the UAC permissions. So I do not know what this directory actually is.

I do not follow all of the MUMBO JUMBO you referred me to, but I assure you the index.dat files exist & I figured it out myself.
