Hi,

Newbie here so excuse my deemed as inane questions and comments.

Foolishly I installed Windows 7 SP1 Update on my kid's Toshiba Mini Notebook yesterday. They have Win 7 Starter.

It locked the whole desktop and all of the programs as insufficient permissions.

Uninstalled WIN 7 SP1 this morning and now everything except Thunderbird is back to normal .... I think?

However I try to open Thunderbird I cannot open it fully as an administrator. Not quite true, occasionally at random is does open properly but 9/10 it opens with no Help menu and no access to the email folders etc.

Any body have any clues on how to fix this?

Urgent help would be appreciated before they get back from School Camp and kill me.

Help!

Now that you've uninstalled SP1, use System Restore to a date before you installed it, see if that solves the problem.

Hi,

Tried the System Restore and it did not work. Also tried uninstalling and reinstalling Mozilla Thunderbird but that did not work either.

I have also tried setting the Properties at Desk Top Icon, Programs Folder Level for Compatibility and Security to try to give the User the expanded Permissions but it still will not open Thunderbird fully.

Dumb thing is like I said it occasionally will open properly but I have no reason why.

While I also posted this on the Mozilla Thunderbird Forum I think it is really a Win 7 and a left over Win 7 SP1 problem.

What the heck were you supposed to do if the Win 7 SP1 had worked properly?

The Win 7 system seems to be very anti User. MS seem to think that we are too stupid to handle system security by ourselves so they are doing to for, should say, to us.

Glad I am still on XP on my own system.

No clue what else to try.

Help!

Re-install Thunderbird.

Do an uninstall through Program Features, saving your settings (there's an option for that upon uninstalling) then re-install Thunderbird.

Then re-install SP1.
