Win 7 SP1 update (KB976932) won't install Error 0x800f0826

I have tried to install to SP1 in multiple ways, too many to list but am willing to try them all again. After reboot it gets to about 7%then says "sailure configuring service pack ... reverting changes". I have also tried installing the system update readiness tool but it returns with the same error 0x800f0826 Access is denied.

I recently got this laptop from my brother, no install recovery discs. Since it was his computer, i changed the account name and password. I am the only account on the computer and set to administrator. I think what happenned is when i changed from the old account name to the new account name it didnt update all the credentials so now it won't update. Avg won't turn on after i disabled italso bc it says i have insufficient user rights. PLEASE HELP!

Your best bet would be to reinstall.
It's impossible to know what your brother may have done to the system, and what may be installed without your knowledge.
I would NEVER use a second-hand machine without a full reformat/reinstall no matter who it came from.

Faiing that, create a new administrator user account for yourself, and see if the problem exists there. If not, transfer your data to that account, and then delete the existing one.

still no SP1

I am trying to avoid having to buy a new windows 7 OEM and reinstall, I figured its just a windows problem that could be fixed. I tried creating a new account as adminstrator under me, deleting the old admin account and installing, but again same error as seen in image below. Anyone want to help me solve this problem so i can get SP1 installed. I did go into msconfig.exe and enable avg to load at startup so thats fixed now.

I just want SP1, thats all, no reinstall.
