Can anyone tell me what makes win7 decide to attach the number 2 in parentheses to a start menu item - that part of the menu above the windows orb that lists the program recently and frequently used?

Doesn't hurt anything but it annoys me.

thanks

You must have a shortcut or something with that in it. Never seen it myself.

It normally means there are two of the .exe, as a way to alert you and differentiate. You only need one.
