Hello,
I attempted to increase my computer speed by changing the number of processors under "system configuration, general, selective startup, load system services". Upon doing this, I did not get any faster speed and my computer got worse (not going to sites, messing up my trackball mouse, skipping spaces when moving and generally making it hard to use the computer, etc.). So I went back to where I made the change from 1 to 4 processors, thinking I would just reverse it back to 1 processor...Surprise! When I tried to open "load system services", the app closed completely; since then I've been unable open it again.

PC system specs:
Asus custom build
windows 7 home premium 64bit
intel core i7-4770 3.4GHz
motherboard: Asus B85-Plus LGA1150
memory: 32GB 1333 DDRIII RAM
SanDisk 128GB SSD, Seagate Barracuda 1TB

Any help you can offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Sun Son

Number of processors and Maximum memory should remain unchecked and greyed out.

Unless someone here has a solution to your problem, you may need to re-install Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit.

Try running msconfig.exe, Boot, Advanced Options. Can you change the number of processors there?

Use Safe Mode and go back in and change the setting. (Repeatedly hit F7 on boot).

Your observation is EXACTLY what you'd expect it to do. Never mess with that.
