Win 7 upgrade disk will not run. No error message.

I have 2 computers on a home network (both were running Win XP Pro). Obtained Win 7 Upgrade disk fom Microsoft and installed Win 7 on Machine 1. OK!
Now trying to install Win 7 on Machine 2.

Placed disk into DVD-CD drive and drive seems to run. Start/my computer/cd drive shows disk is in drive. Right click/explore. Disk contents appear.

Disk runs but machine hangs up. Nothing happens. Placed disk in cd drive of machine 1 and it performs as it should.

I have updated the driver for disk drive. Other disks which I have tried in the cd drive seem to operate correctly.

Motherboard is a MSI MS-7309 1.0
Processor - AMD 2.60 HZ Athlon 64
Memory 4GB
CD Rom- Compaq DVD-Rom SD-M1612

I really want to install Win7 on this machine so both machines appear the same.

Can any one help, Please!

have u tried to install from bios?restart your pc,go to bios and place your disk drive on top of the boot device priority,then just follow the instructions..good luck..

Did you purchase two Win 7 Upgrade Disks? From the language in your post, it appears you are using the same one to upgrade both. That is against the license agreement.

You must have two licenses, but the installer is the same.

Try resetting the BIOS to defaults: Clear CMOS - 3 Ways to Reset BIOS

While in BIOS setup, set DVD drive to boot first, followed by HD. Then set SATA controller to AHCI mode to try install.

Next try wiping the HD first with Clean command: SSD - HDD Optimize for Windows Reinstallation Then Test your HD using maker's HD Diagnostic extended CD scan, which can also clean the HD.

If this fails try removing all but 2gb of RAM to try install. Test your RAM: RAM - Test with Memtest86+

Next try Step 2.2 in Optimize tutorial above to create and mark Active a partition. IF install still fails, run Disk Check on HD from DVD System Recovery Options Command Line.

1) I cleared CMOS. Reset BIOS defaults. --No change.
2) In Googleing AHCI, it appears that my NIVIDA equiped motherboard does not require this. I can find no way to do what you suggest here either.
3) Booting from cd drive.
4) If I run win xp in SAFE Mode or SAFE mode with network, then place the win 7 upgrade disk in the cd drive, xp opens the win 7 upgrade as it should. I can not install win 7 ( both tries fail to properly install win 7.)

What about the rest of the steps I gave you?

All the steps should be completed before moving on to new ones I will give you to run Win7 from XP OS or move HD to another computer to try install, then SysPrep it before moving back to problem machine.

You are using a DVD drive, correct?

I have a Disk labeled: "Microsoft Windows 7 professional 32 bitx86 upgrade. Pre-existing OS liscense required." "End Item Part No. FQC-00116." If I run SSD / HDD : Optimize for Windows Reinstallation as you suggested, as I read about this, it will perform a low level format of my HDD and the OS will no longer be present. My Win 7 disk must have an OS in order to run. It is not a Bootable Disk.

I have run "Memtest86+" - 3 passes on entire 4 GB ram = no problems
Several of the other suggested programs may be on a Win 7 bootable cd but they appear not to be available on my XP machine. I did run "chkdsk" under Win xp and it also indicated = no problems.

I have not been able to find a test program for the "Compaq DVD-Rom SD-M1612 DVD/CD-R" drive but I did run the Microsoft "Mr Fix It" for dvd-cd drives and it said it had fixed everything but when I place the Win 7 Upgrade disk in the drive, it runs for a long time then reports "The File 'autorun.dll' could not load or is corrupt. Setup cannot continue. Error code is: [0x3E7]"

I tried the disk again on my other machine and it runs properly so I do not really believe that the above mentioned file is bad.

So, I am back asking, "what should I try now?"
