Did you install Windows 7 in another partition, or did you install it over XP? I'm going to assume you put it in another partition, since you list XP as your OS in your system specs. Do you have any IDE drives in your computer? Have you reviewed the boot order in your BIOS? Has Windows 7 ever booted without the disc in the drive? How old is your installation? Does your motherboard manufacturer provide any Windows 7 drivers?

I have not installed it over xp since I formatted the partition. I have 1 IDE drive and it works fine but the drive that win 7 is on is an S-ata 2 drive. My boot order I never change it and it boots 1st from cd/dvd but that has to make no difference or does it with win7 ? 2nd from HDD.

ONCE AGAIN I ASK IN DETAIL. STEP BY STEP
1. Insert my xp cd format my C: drive
2. Restart and insert my win7 dvd
3. choose what partition it needs to install to
4. and it installed everything till it was done

Why did you install your XP CD? You can select, create, delete, and format partitions during the Windows 7 installation process - you select custom install, then drive options (advanced). You should reinstall Windows 7 using the correct procedure. Do not use your XP disc at all.

It's not clear what you have already done, can you look at this sticky thread Questions to use for help with Installation Issues and answer as many questions as you can. This will help us to understand what has been done previously.

Reply back with the answers, then read through the tutorial below.

Try using this tutorial Clean Installation with Windows 7 to re-install Win7.

In step#7 of the tutorial select the partition you want to install Win7 on and format it, then proceed with the steps in the tutorial.
Remember to Boot from the Win7 DVD.

Just use the Windows 7 install process, and format from within Windows 7. Don't use your XP disc.

Ok I think I know what the problem is. I have run boot manager and it seems that my boot manager lives is in Drive F: so it can no boot. But even if I format my win7 installation I will keep getting the same problem. I will try to delete and format the F: partition and see what it does.

I have also found this on another site for people who have the same problem.
