Win 7 winpemaker

"F:\Win7 SP1 ISO_xxxxxxxxxx_092513\X17-59465". Is very, very long with spaces.

You are better putting the win7sp1dvd in the drive and point it at the drive.

Hello SIW2,

Thanks for the reply. I do not have the DVD for SP1, I only downloaded it from the MyDigital River. Will I need to burn it to a disc or just extract it to a folder onto the desktop..?

Thanks again for the reply.

Extract the zip directly onto the root of the drive .You will have C:\PE764

Extract the iso to a folder directly on the root of the drive, e.g. c:\jso.

Hi SIW2,

I'm back hee to report. I extracted the Win7 SP1 ISO to C:\zzX17-59465 and the PE764v2.rar to C:\zzPE764v2. Everything went okay except that when it was adding EasyBCD it stopped. The video capture that I took which was slowed down showed,

Adding Easybcd....
The syntax of the command is incorrect.

See image attached.

FMfOMaa.png

It was really going okay without errors unlike the other trials I did. It's this "syntax thing" only...What can I do/check further please?

Will wait for your reply.

Thank you.

Possible Success

Bug fixes. NEW VERSION -V3

7PE64v3.zip

I'm not sure what you changed, but that may have fixed my problems.

I created a new VM and used your new version (v3).
When I ran it, it got all the way to the end and created an ISO file.

I'll test the ISO and if it works, I'll try adding a few portable programs and creating a new ISO.

Successful and yet strange

Good, let me know how it goes.

I've just tested it using a VM.
It appears to be working.
W7PE Builder.png
Something weird issues though.

The dates seem to be out.
I built a new W7 VM (today), updated it, used v3 of your program (the picture suggests that I used v2).
I only added:

  • AOMEI (AOMEI forgot its Product Key)
  • EasyBCD
  • Macrium
  • The portable version of Speccy
  • The portable version of Recuva (Recuva didn't survive the process)
It has programs that I didn't add.
Specifically:

  • Process Explorer
  • Defraggler
  • CCleaner
I did try to add those portable programs in my previous attempts (v1 & v2).
It couldn't have used the old files, as I used a brand new VM.

I don't know how you managed that. The link now contains v3.

Very odd. As long as it boots up and runs your included programs, then that is good. The new version fixed some bugs that only happened if it found certain installed programs and tried to include them. It also has updated versions of produkey and ntpwedit, and includes the necessary files to pick up and install a registered image, if you have done that.

Very odd. Does it boot ok?

I haven't burned it to a disc yet (I used the ISO with a W7 VM).

I did run CCleaner and Defraggler before I ran v3 (from the Public folder on my Physical PC).

Here is a picture from the VM I used.

It looks right in the pic. If the iso runs in a vm, it must be fine. It is probabaly going to be quicker if you etract it onto a usb stick.

If you are happy with it, you can get the boot.wim out of the ISO\sources folder, and pop it into your Recovery\long-guid folder right next to winre.wim.

Then rename winre.wim to something like winre-orig.wim. Next rename boot.wim to winre.wim.

That means it will start up on F8 "Repair My Computer"

Update

I successfully created a second PE ISO and included shortcuts for CCleaner and Speccy (which I added).

I didn't get shortcuts for ESET and AOMEI.
Was I supposed to create those manually?

AOMEI still didn't accept that I had registered it before running the PE builder.
I checked its status in the VM before the second attempt (the VM considers it to be registered).

Also, Process Explorer and Defraggler were included again.

Since I forgot to reboot my VM and I ran those programs before my first attempt, could they have been added from the VM's RAM or SuperFetch?

I don't need to "register" Aomei in any way. It should automatically pick up Aomei Backupper and partition assistant Free or Pro if you have them installed. If you add things in manually, then you will need to create your own shortcuts.

Eset shortcut is in the start menu. Aomei Backupper shortcut should be on the desktop. Aomei Partition Assistant should be on the taskbar.

Weird

I don't need to "register" Aomei in any way. It should automatically pick up Aomei Backupper and partition assistant Free or Pro if you have them installed.

I mean that AOMEI, on the PE disc, asks for my Product Key each time I start it.

If you add things in manually, then you will need to create your own shortcuts.

That's what I thought.

Eset shortcut is in the start menu. Aomei Backupper shortcut should be on the desktop. Aomei Partition Assistant should be on the taskbar.

I don't see those items.

No idea what happened to those couple of programs. If you find out how you managed to mess them up , let me know, I can't reproduce it here.

If you get it out of the vm, you will find sound works great. Flash, too.

The locations of AOMEI and the ESET look correct to you?

I accepted the default install settings for AOMEI and the ESET installation was offered by the tool.

I didn't edit the pecmd.ini data for those programs (I only added entries for CCleaner and Speccy).

I'll have a poke around on the weekend, but if you couldn't see anything strange, I seriously doubt that I'll find anything.

If you get it out of the vm, you will find sound works great. Flash, too.

Isn't Flash going to be problematic, given its weekly update cycle?

I have a large collection of "How to ..." files for Windows.
Is it possible to include the "How to ..." files (txt files and pictures)?

I realise that. :)

That is why I mentioned Flash, because it always needs to be updated, since it is such a security hazard.
It would be painful to fix your OS, only to discover later that a Flash exploit corrupted your repaired OS.

Still ... wouldn't a USB PE be more vulnerable, than a CD PE, because it can be written to?
