Hi, i just made an iso file of my windows 7 that i got with the student discount so i put it on my usb drive by following the instructions on these forums. Everything seemed to go fine, then i went into my bios and set up usb drive to boot first, but it just wont boot from the usb drive. I dont know why, the windows 7 iso file is definitely on the drive. Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks

The way I get a USB flash drive to install WIn7 is to format it Primary in Disk Management, then copy the extracted files into the root of the stick.
(You can even add other files and folders to the stick. I keep Win7 in a folder and spill the files out into the root when I want to boot from the stick.)

Then use the BIOS boot shortcut key (normally F10) which will normally list the flash drive as a HDD, or if you don't have one boot into the BIOS and set flash HDD to boot first.

The other way that works best is to use UltraISO free trial and have it locate the ISO and write it to the flashdrive, which it has the ability to do on the Write tab.

yea i used UltraISO but it still wont work i guess ill try your way

Did you locate the flash drive in the BIOS shortcut menu (usually F10) listed under HDD's? Or did it show up in the BIOS boot order menu accessed using F1/F2 or delete?
