When installing Win 7 it comes upi with an error code ******** during windows expanding still at 0% after maybe 2 minutes.

I have 3 harddrive showing at the moment and though there was a problem with the partitions, so i put my XP cd in and deleted all partition and all are now unallocated.

Thought this may solve the problem, i have been reading and somewhere around the forum it has been mentioning that there maybe issues with video cards. I have a Winhauppage TV tuner. could this be the problem. I do not need this now so i can take it out.

if someone can give me ideas, i am doing it tonight. so a quick repsonse would be great!!

Marc

Cant remember the code, but you mention to only boot on 1 stick ram. I have 4 sticks of 1gb rams, will it be ok on 1 stick of 1 gb. going to run of 64bit

If your hardware supports x64 (which I suspect it does), you will be fine installing 64-bit Windows. Just put the other 3GB back in when you are done.

Try changing your SATA setting in your BIOS to AHCI, or non-RAID if it is already AHCI.

Ummmm... silly question.... you have all your HD space unallocated... but are you creating a partition for Win7 to install into?

That's not a problem, CommonTater. Windows 7 will automatically create the partitions it needs, when you tell it to install to unallocated space.

I would unplug all but the target HD, in addition to the tv tuner card.

Make sure your BIOS is updated to latest version, then set SATA controller to AHCI as Jon suggests, then IDE if necessary.

 You mean I've been doing all this work for nothing????

Actually, I would never have discovered that on my own since I keep 3 partitions on the drive and don't want W7 taking over the whole thing... Thanks ;)

So....i went home anxious of not managing to acheive my goal... Cause the wife needs facebook etc etc... and i am away for 5 days.....

Outcome. The windows 7 dvd i had i successfully installed on 2 notebooks. you can choose 32 or 64 bit. Does not need a loader. so one would think that it should work on my pc. However i took from work our windows 7 just straight 64 bit and put in the cd drive...... hey presto no problems what so ever....

Strange thing is though....windows 7 sees 4gb ram but can only work on 3gb. presuming that 1 of my sticks is dodgy. i am then assuming that this is the reason the original dvd would not install.

Wife happily on facebook...however moaning that have not spent much time with her....cause trying to fix computer....they have no understanding. ahhhhh!!!!! should have let her do it.

Thank you to Jonathan King
