Hey guys, not sure if I've got the right section so I thought I'd give this a go here.

Trying to install a 5670 my parents' computer, their motherboard's a Gigabyte GA-MA785GT-UD3H. They're currently using the on-board video of the motherboard so I disabled that, installed the card and booted into Windows. The card is on, producing heat but all I get from Win 7 is "Standard VGA adapter". Tried installing ATI's latest drivers, no go. Tried searching Windows Update to find drivers, no go. Bios is up to date.

Any ideas?

Did you get a message from the installer saying that video hardware could not be detected? Run Driver Sweeper in safe mode and run the installer again.

As an aside, you don't need that card if that PC doesn't play games. The integrated graphics are a fine option for non-gaming.

Catalyst installer doesn't say whether it is detected or not. And yeah, I've cleaned with Driver Sweeper.

They want to play a few games, that's why I got them this card.

1) Clean out the drivers again with Driver Sweeper.

2) Run the installer in Windows. Ignore it if it fails.

3) Open up Device Manager.

4) Right click standard VGA adaptor.

5) Click Update

6) Choose from file or a similar option

7) Point the browser box to C:\ATI

8) Continue.

No go. :(

It's obviously detecting something as the LCD has no problem hooking up with it. Ugh.

Device Manager didn't go through the folder? Can you navigate to C:\ATI and find the right .inf file? If that doesn't work, return the card and try out the integrated GPU - actually what games do they want to play?

Even when I navigate to the ATI folder it just keeps detecting standard vga adapter. Dad wants to play some war games, so yeah, thought the 5670 would be pretty cheap and good way to go. But yeah, might have to send it back if I can't get it working.

You can sweep and scrub all you want but it isn't going to help, as there is no support/DevID in the latest Catalyst 10.1 for that card (card is newer than the driver). If you haven't yet give this one a try,

I'm experiencing the same problem as you, only that the driver download does not exist, and when I did download the latest driver, as soon as I restarted, and loaded the menu my screen said this "mode not supported".

Which 5670 are you working with? Looking at one or two myself and have a similar board.
