Help me niemiro!
(Continued from here.)
I am having a problem with windows update as well..

I tried to install the following updates but received the 800b0100 error:
Security Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB2286198)
Update for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems (KB980408)
Windows 7 Service Pack 1 for x64-based Systems (KB976932)

I attached my CheckSUR.log file, can you please help me! What do you think is the cause of this problem? Could it be the clock/date being set wrong? (mine was set wrong for a day or so..)

Please help!
Thanks!

Hello and welcome to the Seven Forums!

You do indeed have me! I think you can see what is coming! Let's see if I can get your updates working, and first time!

WARNING! This fix was created specifically for this user! If you are not this user, do not follow these instructions!
@hrf3420: Ignore the above :)

Download the attached .zip file. Inside it, will be two folders, Packages and Manifests.

Create these folders if they do not already exist: C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests

Extract Packs.zip onto your Desktop. Please place the contents of my Desktop\Packages in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\Servicing\Packages\ and my Desktop\Manifests in C:\Windows\Temp\CheckSur\winsxs\Manifests.

DO NOT place the .zip file in that folder, or the folders themselves. Make sure that a lot of files are in each of those Checksur folder.

Re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and get me another copy of C:\Windows\Logs\CBS\CheckSUR.log.

Also, please retest Windows Updates (with fingers slightly crossed, no matter how much we both know that that won't help! lol.)

Thanks!

Richard

Hey niemiro,
I put the files where you told me and retried the updates... still no dice. Heres the next copy of CheckSUR. I also have included a copy of part of the System File Check log (all the strings matching "[SR]")

There seems to be some problem with mfcm90.dll, according to the sfc. I was thinking of just copying the file from another windows installation, but I realized that there could be a unique hash or whatever associated with it so I decided not to.

Thanks!!

Hello again!

Did you re-run the System Update Readiness Tool? You need to position the files in that temporary folder, and then re-run the System Update Readiness Tool to move the files to their permanent location.

Please check that the files are still in place, re-run the System Update Readiness Tool, and then re-check Windows Update.

About the SFC scan, you are right, we do need to make sure that we have exactly the right version, otherwise it will be rejected by the computer.

For this, I need to see the whole CBS.log (a parsed log is good for analysis, but either an MD5 scan or a whole CBS.log is required for a repair) and some other logs in that folder.

Please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop here.

Thanks!

Richard

P.S. The whole CBS folder ideally :) Thanks again!

Hello Guido, and welcome to the Seven Forums!

I am more than willing to help you, but can I please ask you to create a new thread for me, to avoid confusion between you and hrf3420?

Also, Please copy the C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder to your Desktop, right click on it > Send to > Compressed (zipped) folder, and upload the new file which is created on your Desktop in your new thread.

Thanks!

Richard

Okay, here's the whole folder. I was able to install the first two updates but I still cannot install the service pack.. However it is throwing me a different error code now. (0x800f0a12) Do you think it is because of my RevoDrive? Its a PCI-e SSD... I was reading up on that error and it has something to do with file access, at least some of the time.

Before I take more of your time, I should also let you know that there is something wrong with my graphics driver. I have an pny nvidia geforce gtx 570. When I run the system rating utility the system locks up and the screen goes black (on the ALU test step) and also on video games now, (it didnt on games untill i fooled around with the drivers more).... I get this as a bugcheck in the event log:
Code:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000d1 (0xfffff8880b93eff8, 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000001, 0xfffff88010175d4e). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 041011-12464-02.
I believe it is being caused by a faulty file/driver. I have reinstalled the drivers many times and tried every version on nvidias site, including betas. This is the second time I have installed windows on my computer. I was able to get the drivers working correctly after the first install with some work. I took note of the driver version and thought that that was the problem, but apparently not. I am trying to get updates to work so I can get sp1 on there and possibly fix the problem with that .dll, and maybe it will fix this massive issue with my computer.

Should I just reinstall windows and retry everything? I've only had my build for a week now and its looking better and better. I'm just hoping this is not a hardware fault/compatibility problem.

Thanks!

SP1 doesn't like your hardware configuration. Have a look at this link: Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 Service Pack 1 (SP1) installation error: 0x800F0A12

Try the mountvol /e fix in the first drop down.

Looking at your specs (well done on filling them out, and a nice machine!)

OCz RevoDrive 120GB OCz Vertex 2 60GB 250 GB 5400rpm 2.5"

It is something to do with this. Hopefully mountvol will work some magic, but we shall see.

Also, is this a homebuilt machine? Well done if it is. I am very much a software guru, and am not clued up to the hardware enough to build my own yet, although I think that I am ready to build my next one - or at least try to!

Can you also please follow steps one to four here as well: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

and post your logs here. I shall look over them.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

Hey niemiro,
the mountvol /e fix did not work. Which doesn't surprise me.... Allow me to explain another detail about my pc :geek:

I have Mac OS 10.6.6 installed in the 60 gb sata SSD. The bootloader (Chameleon RC4) resides on the SATA SSD. Thats where the motherboard looks first. Then if I want to boot Windows 7 I select the "System Reserved" partition located on the PCIe RevoDrive. Last time I tried, I couldn' t boot my syatem with *only* the RevoDrive attached. I got the bootmgr missing error. This is looking to be more and more the problem, which was one of my few initial suspects..

But: Does that explain the problem with the video card? I did at one time have it running 100%, I am sure of that. Let see what you find in those dump files!

Looking at it with bluescreenview shows that it was a direct X kernel crash, which makes complete sense..

[EDIT] I just booted the system with having ONLY the revodrive installed. SP1 is now installing as I am writing this. Hopefully it fixes the DX kernel bug too. *fingers crossed.

Thanks! You are a god.

PS- Yes, I built this system myself last week. I feel like RMA'ing something, but I know its 99% likely its not a hardware fault. Maybe I should RMA the RevoDrive and get another SATA SSD. It's getting to be too much trouble for what it's worth.

I rebooted and did it a second time from the update manager and it worked. Still have the DX kernel crash though.

What the hell!

Error code 0 is definitely a success message, and always has been.

Right, firstly, can you please press the Windows Key + R, and type winver

Does SP1 show as installed.

I need to go now :( Really sorry.

Tomorrow I shall check out that SFC corruption if it still exists, check some new log files, and sort out any loose ends, including SP1.

Thanks again!

Richard

P.S. I have just run your Minidumps. I shall give you a full analysis tmz, as I really need to go, but eventually, it will come to posting this link: http://www.sevenforums.com/crash-lo...op-0x116-video_tdr_error-troubleshooting.html

I thought that you would rather have something than nothing for tonight...

I rebooted and did it a second time from the update manager and it worked. (even did the configuring updates screen, unlike on the first time.)

Still having the DX kernel crash though.
Pic- yep it worked this time..

I played Crysis 2 on very high settings for 3 or 4 hours non-stop on Saturday. I'm sure its not overheating, also It's running FurMark Just fine, OpenGL looks to be working fine.

Hello again!

Really sorry for my rush last night. Right, I have asked one of the hardware/BSoD experts to come in and take a look. They should be along shortly.

If you have received any more BSoDs, can you please re-run this tool: http://www.sevenforums.com/crashes-debugging/96879-blue-screen-death-bsod-posting-instructions.html

The reason is that these minidump files are only clues, and are not conclusive, even when run using Windbg, and so the more we have, the more likely we are to pick up something extra (although less likely with this particular STOP code)

Also, can you please re-run sfc /scannow and upload a whole new C:\Windows\Logs\CBS folder. I want this to check out SFC, and also SP1.

Thanks a lot!

Richard

EDIT: What anti-virus are you running?

After I tried the performance rating again i still got a crash, but no minidump. I think it's making a full memory dump file and only saving that. (MEMORY.DMP) I have had more since, but I dont think there are any more minidumps.

Also, it's more of a black screen of death, given that the graphics driver freezes.

I am using Eset NOD32 x64 for antivirus.

Thanks!

Hello again!

Yes, it is. Anyway, I shall leave that to the BSoD expert.

Your anti-virus wasn't showing up in WMI. Not to worry. Some anti-virus do that.

Right, let's quickly fix those two corrupt files from SFC.

Can you please download and install this file from Microsoft: Download details: Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86)

Restart your computer and re-run SFC (yes, again, sorry )

If it still comes back as dirty, follow the below instructions, and only if it still comes back as dirty. Please read through these instructions once first, before getting started.

Please takeownership of C:\Windows\winsxs\x86_microsoft.vc90.mfc_1fc8b3b9a1e18e3b_9.0.30729.1_none_dcc7eae99ad0d9cf

and inside that folder, mfc90u.dll and mfcm90.dll using these instructions: Take Ownership of file - Vista Forums

After that, download Packs.zip, and overwrite mfc90u.dll and mfcm90.dll using the ones provided by me.

After that, restore the Trusted Installer or System using these instructions for those two files and that folder: TrustedInstaller - Restore as Owner - Vista Forums

Then re-run SFC and allow it to rebuild the symbolic links how it likes them ("Errors found and corrected")

However, there is an alternative method. If you want to, we could either download, or use your own Windows 7 installation DVD, and avoid all of these permissions.

Your choice. The very best of luck!

Richard

P.S. Be very careful with the folder name!

Both of your dumps are nearly identical, Bugcheck 116, VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE - Usual causes: Video driver, overheating, bad video card, ?BIOS. Both blame nvlddmkm.sys, your video driver. However, other things can cause conflicts with the video driver. Read this article for more information on this error: http://www.sevenforums.com/graphic-...ing-display-driver-ati-hd5870.html#post821652

1. You have two drivers that are suspect. Both of these drivers are out of date and have created problems before. Update these two drivers through the links provided or uninstall the software they are associated with.
SiRemFil.sys Wed Oct 18 18:20:39 2006 - Silicon Image driver. Silicon Image - Support

SiWinAcc.sys Mon Nov 01 15:23:29 2004 - Silicon Image driver - comes with package for the SIxxxx drivers. Silicon Image - Support
2. Uninstall Alcohol. It uses a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done: DuplexSecure - Downloads

Here is a free alternative CD virtualization program that does not use the sptd.sys driver.
Freeware MagicISO Virtual CD/DVD-ROM(MagicDisc) Overview

In addition, your dumps show that you do not have SP1 installed. I strongly urge you to install SP1.

Follow these suggestions, reboot and let's see if your system is more stable. Please post back and let us know. If you get another BSOD after following the above suggestions, please upload it and we will go from there.

2. Uninstall Alcohol. It uses a driver, found in your dmp, sptd.sys, that is notorious for causing BSODs. Use this SPTD uninstaller when you're done:DuplexSecure - Downloads

My god, I completely forgot about alcohol. I've had problems with that software before!

I'm going to try all of these solutions when I get back to my room. Thanks guys!

Okay, I have uninstalled Alcohol and restored spdt. I also reinstalled both vcredist x86 and x64, which didnt fix the problem. I also installed you the Packs.zip you gave me, retook ownership as TrustedInstaller, etc. Still a dirty SFC log. :(

Here are the logs again, since CarlTR6 is saying it could be my RevoDrive and my drivers for it are in fact current, I'm going to disconnect all drives and try installing to an extra SATA SSD and see what happens. Lets hope it works!

Would changing the BIOS setting from IDE to AHCI do anything? That shouldnt affect the Revo because its attached as a separate raid controller.. right?

EDIT: Okay, so I reinstalled Windows 7 on a SATA drive. Still having the same problem. It's not the Revo.

Okay guys, riddle me this:

  • I run Crysis 2. I can run it just fine no crashes, with a lower resolution and a lower graphics.
  • If I run Crysis 2 with everything set on highest it WILL crash.
  • BUT If I start the game on low settings, the play for a minute or two, and bump the settings up to full/max resolution, the game runs FINE.
  • After I boost the settings up to highest, I can play as long as I want without a hitch. BUT, if I minimize the game window and re-open it, the system will Black screen. It won't crash, however, when the settings are low/medium.
Heres the craziest thing:
I can minimize Crysis and run the Windows 7 computer rating assessment and it goes through the tests just fine.:mad:

Then, when I close the game and try and rerun the assessment, it crashes the same way it did before. WTF!

This has to be, without a doubt, a software glitch.

I opened a new Thread here.
