Hey all,

I just have a quick question. I am currently running Windows 8, installed off of an upgrade key bought online, and not through a disc. Originally, the computer had win 7 on it. The computer, however, only came with the reinstallation disc that works only if 7 is installed on the system already, and not a full install disc. My question is, would using that disc revert it back to windows 7 and do a clean install if I tell it to reinstall windows or will it essentially be a lost cause? Also, is there a way to do a full, clean install using that disc if I completely format the drive or would I have to get ahold of a win 7 64 bit disc in order to do that?

The reinstall disc will install Windows 7. If you format during install then it will be a Clean Install.

You can also (maybe) create a Windows 8/8.1 iso that you can then create an install DVD or flash drive from if you upgraded from 7 to 8 through Microsoft.

See here: How to Create a Recovery USB Flash Drive in Windows 8 and 8.1

Option Three shows you how to create an ISO using the ESD-ISO tools after you did a store upgrade.
