Well, it will take something real good to get me away from 7, but I'm anxious to try it out. I would love it to be better, than 7, and am hoping it is.
We are but eternal optimists Steve but if recent past performances are any indication, I'm not holding my breath. Bugger me, they get near perfection with W7 and now want to fry us all.

Well, maybe I'm naïve,
but, I was hoping they learned something from 8, where they made a phone/tablet OS and tried to port it to the desktop. There was a lot of negative reviews in the Win 8 previews, and they ignored it. That cost them much more than they are willing to admit. I am an optimist that they won't go down that road again. There is little doubt that Microsoft has a bunch of smart people there. Smart people learn from their mistakes. If they do that it will be at least a fairly good OS. If they keep with their kids theme and try to port another phone OS to the desktop, Microsoft will be badly damaged. If you see Vista, which was not well received, but they made it into 7, which was the best OS they ever produced, it still took some time for them to recover from Vista, and it's still mentioned today, but they did recover and recovered very well. They have that opportunity right now, to use 9 to recover from 8. I'm seriously hoping they use 9 just like they used 7, and come out with a great OS. But, if they try to port a touch screen phone OS to the desktop again, they will be in very big trouble, and may have a lot of trouble recovering, in my opinion. Once they can have the vision to see that there is a difference in a phone/tablet OS and a desktop OS, and they are two different things, they will find success.
If they keep the vision that your phone, tablet and desktop should look and act the same, they are in serious trouble. They are not the same and never will be. I know there are people here that like 8 very much, and I am happy for them and I am not an 8 hater. I have a windows phone that I like very much, but it just does not work for me on a desktop. If it works for you, that's great and I'm honestly happy for you. It is just not for me and even Microsoft seems to be abandoning it. That gives me hope for 9, that it will be more of a 7 than an 8, or at least give us options. I shouldn't have to go get third party apps to make it work as a desktop OS, as most people have. For those who think I am someone who just hates 8 and never tried it, I have used every 8 that came out including the Developer's preview, and have 8.1 in a VM on this machine and a used to be 8 now 8.1 on a laptop that I use. I also have a Windows 8 phone. So, I'm not in that category. And yes, I can use every one of them. I really like the Windows Phone, but find everything I want to do on either desktop, more difficult to do, but I can do most everything. So, I'm hoping 9 will be more of 7 and less of 8, and they give us choices of how it will look and act. That's just my opinion, everyone is entitled to their own. I know there are quite a few people on here that are quite happy with 8. I'm genuinely happy for them, it's just not for me. That's just my opinion.
