Solved Win Defender hangs

After installing Superanti-spyware, and running Defender offline, the regular Defender does not turn on; a timed-out error occurs. Tried installing a fresh version, but in execution, box tells me your Vista already has one---I have 7, not Vista.
I turned off all AV except for MSE. Any ideas?

After some research here, a post from 6/12 led me to Windows, where it states that MSE supercedes Defender and also turns it off. So I have protectiona after all.
