[Win Explorer][BUG REPORT ish](shortcut/icons, issue if renamed)

1st if this the wrong sub-forum feel free to move this topic...

OK! IF I renamed a shortcut/icon on either the desktop or shortcuts in the Quick-Launch folder..
THEY WILL LOSE their position details below...

ie. I remade the "Windows IE Quick-Launch Folder" for tacking to the Taskbar same position right side next to the system tray...

• C:\Users\UserProfileName\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch

Technical the folder already already existed i just had to pin it to the Taskbar lol

FIRST the desktop,

I have a few shortcuts named to include their version # lol

AND I rename them when the program gets a update!!

the position of said renamed shortcuts will only lose their position if I logout and back in OR restart the PC...
ie. the shortcut(s) will get sent to the first available spot in the top left corner of the desktop.. closest to position x=0, y=0 ..

THE WORKAROUND!! lol
IS to MOVE the icon/shortcut to a different spot... then back to where I want it...
it seems to work 90%+ of the time...


OF COURSE if Windows Explorer or Windows in general should crash...
The positions/SETTINGS DO NOT GET SAVED.. M$!!!! UUGh FAIL!!
this applies to the Quick-Launch folder contents too! which is next to describe!..


2nd! the position of shortcuts in the root of the Quick-Launch folder
(ie. and sub folder in quick launch AUTO-SORTS NO EXCEPTIONS!)

ok so I rename a shortcut here and immediately close the popup menu...
WITHOUT FAIL EVERY SINGLE TIME, the position of that shortcuts is REST every single time!!

it resets to position 1 in the list which is the bottom...
workaround is the same, in my case I always move the shortcut up or down one position and move it back to where I want it... I have a SPECIFIC/PRECISE alignment ORDER of these shortcuts...

so what it comes down to is does anyone KNOW a permanent SOLUTION!???
outside of GETTING a bug fix from M$, and the chances of that or even out to to it..
M$ is very secretive about Windows.. and THEY rarely fix anyting.
its all just about the $$$$$$$$$$$

thx but that doesn't look like that will do me any good...
I checked it's list of fixes...

While I do have a highly configured system and tweaked..
those are not the problem..
this issue existed even after an initial install..
pretty sure its a bug...

so I was wondering if anyone else had encountered this before and had a
registry fix I guess...

and ya gotta pay for it to get all of the repair options...
that being said I am outta $$ till Sept 1st... :/

EDIT:
gave it a quick go over...
the pre stuff found only one error...

it found a WinRAR error..

• C:\Program Files (x86)\WinRAR

in the path of course that doesn't exist be cause this is

• Windows 7 ULTIMATE SP1 x64
• WinRAR x64

its stranger because I didn't put a x86 WinRAR entry in the PATH
what I did use was a

• %ProgramFiles%\WinRAR

which OF COURSE targets the x64 folder like it should on a 64bit system...
Its a remnant/added during my XP(32bit and 64bit) days..
so I removed the variable and entered the static name for the folder instead

• C:\Program Files\WinRAR

so it must have been a false positive on that repair tools end.. :/

I checked for the x86 entry/reference using RegScanner (NirSoft) and
OF COURSE had such an ntry existed my regular use of the reg cleaner in..
CCleaner WOULD have found it already!! LOL



ps:
I have WinRAR x64 in the PATH so I can use batch files wherever i want mainly for backups of various folders..

I preformed a full checkdsk of all HDDs internal and external NO ERRORS like I would have expected..
I keep an impeccable system nice and clean!


The rest of that program didn't offer a scan first that I could find..
so or maybe I missed it..

lol yeah I already scrapped that program..
I only tried the pre steps..

too many possible options
TO RISK them all being enabled and NO SCAN first option..
uugh.. I am weary of this type of fix all app...
