Hi, I was wondering if someone could guide me in relation to rar archived files I have inadvertently download a very large program with files all rar extension. However the naming of certain parts of the rar file differs some files I discovered have abbreviated naming other rar file have full naming ........... all end with part # (part01.rar part.02.rar etc). Question: Can I simply rename them one way or the other and will they then extract. or must I extract them to a folder .... and how do i so that when they are part of an archive then rename .. I don't want to destroy them hence my question. Anyone please?

Ah i have a feeling what you need is a program called quickpar QuickPar for Windows
what you have there seems to be files that need repairing in order to be able to extract
I wont go into detail about it as i don't want unknown support any illegal activities
though if that's not the case and im understanding you correctly renaming the rar's wont help at all
you need all part rar 01 to whatever the originator set (part 10.rar) to be able to extract and will most likely Contain another several rar's that will contain the file you want
in simple term the originator took one whole file and divided it into a fraction.... you need all the fractions to make a whole..... with all the pieces you can the proceed to extract the intended data

You may find, that if you select 01 and start extraction, it will automatically continue with the remainder.

davehc is correct. You need to have all parts (rarfiles) in the same directory (folder or desktop for instance). When you start extraction on part1 it will then coninue to part2, etc. Usually it will roll back and you'll get nothing if you do not have all the parts. Occasionally, it will extract what there is and then give an unexpected end of archive error if you do not have all parts. A Guy
