After last time's issue with that Update that crashed many WIN7 PC's and also WIN2008 SERVER Systems, some that couldn't repaired after the crash, I am very careful to install new WIN Updates. Especially if I don't know, before I install them, if they cause any problems.

All the Updates that just came out for Feb. 2010, are there any issues known ?

I have dos 6.22, wfwg 3.11, win98, 2000 and xp VHD's available for testing. MS's Virtual PC works great.
Thank you. ;) Appreciate that.

What was again that update that crashed so many things last time ? Wasn't it something with KB24.... , i just don't remember that number anymore. Did Microsoft release a new Version for this update or is it still best to avoid that one ?

I have 3 non security updates. I installed them all, and then I started getting windows genuine validation errors from MSE, even though my Win7 Ultimate copy was direct from MSFT.

I rolled back via system restore, installed the security updates - no problems.

I updated KB2454826 and rebooted - no problems.

Still have two left - KB2467023 and KB2487426.

one of those is the culprit, just not sure which one. Its really $hitty of MSFT to not include any info on genuine validation in their KB articles for one of these two updates.

I seem to have some problems after the last updates. Once I ended up in a blank screen without any desktop icons and no mouse pointer. Once when I started it went through the check disk for C. These however did not repeat thereafter -atleast till now.

But one thing that repeats itself is that my computer goes to sleep now even though I had set "never" in the "high performance" setting. i checked and the setting still remains "never". Then why does it go to sleep? I am yet to look into deeply on this problem.

Based on my experience, I had one problem with the updates to office 2003 and the outlook spam filter updates. I run outlook 2010 and not 2003. I have the other office 2003 products installed.
It screwed up my outlook 2010 but I was able to restore from an image created in the am. I just set the outlook spam filter updates to not install and all seems well. But then I am wierd in that I like outlook 2010 but am entrenched with word and excel 2003. :D

First time poster, first time with this OS.

Well I am in the process of reverting my almost new out of the box Gateway portable back to factory install mode even as I type. The first time it got on line it automagically downloaded 67 updates and then changed the not installed password and locked me out....

Apparently there is no work around for this except reinstall. Good thing I had nothing on the box.

First thing out, this time, I'm going to turn off auto update. I like to wait a few weeks for the dust to settle before I allow windows access to my computers.

I just installed all (or almost all) "Important" updates available since lasted December on my Win7 X64 Pro. Something in that set of updates has greatly lengthened the time between selecting a user after a reboot and the display of the desktop. It used to be almost instantaneous; now it takes a minutes or more. This delay may be related to initialization of my firewall/anti-virus software (ZoneAlarm Security Suite 9.1.603.000) - it hung up one time shortly after the update reboot and had never hung up before.

BTW, even though I had chosen installation of all important maint there is still one uninstalled update: KB976902.
The comments say this update is unremovable. Does that mean that I can't go back to previous restore points, or that I can't remove it without going back to a previous restore point? (Sorry to ask a bonehead question, but I'm Windows-illiterate.)

Edit#1: I found and read the thread on KB976902. I've installed the fix.

Edit#2: I upgraged ZoneAlarm to 9.3.037.000 and no longer have the delay during user selection processing. No more problems.
