Win Vista Upgrade Possibility

I have a decent Win Vista machine that the Windows Compatibility app said I could install Win 7.

However I use Win Vista Home Premium 32b. Can I upgrade on the same machine to Win 7 Professional 32b?

Will I run into any problems? How long should it take and are there any possible issues that may come up?

I would take the upgrade advisor to double check. If you are approved just follow the easyinstuctions for the install. You have to buy another key, however.

But after that you will love the system, I do.

Sure

I use that flavor of 7 and I have had no problems. If your machine is decent, you should have no problem with any version of 7. I personally like 7 pro.

Yes everyone should do a clean (custom with format), but you can use an upgrade DVD. Read the tutorial.

I would prefer not to do a clean install because of the enormous hassle of tracking down all the programs that I purchased and have installed. I don't want to deal with re-installing them completely.

My personal files are small enough that I can back-up to an external HD quickly. The apps are the nightmare that I just want to click a few times and have my Win 7 machine rolling.

If you want to upgrade, you can still try. No harm to try - worst case is it won't work. Clean install may be a alternative if you don't mind reinstalling your programs. Use windows easy transfer to transfer files and settings to 7.

I am here to help and I want to give you my thoughts on what you want to do. Then you weigh the pro and con and do what is best for you.

Bottom line a clean install with format is best. So many posts from those that have problems because they did not do a clean install

What would you like a brand new 2011 car or the 1998 waxed, cleaned, fixed with all new parts and detailed, running like a kitten. The OS is the same thing, its best to get rid of the old and start fresh

Its a starting point, but I've been able to upgrade computers running vista that upgrade advisor says won't work.

Trust me you made a wise choice. You can use easy transfer to move everything but programs. What I did with programs is install as needed.

One more thing as soon as you are activated and have everything installed, make a system image and put it away (picture of hard drive).

Once a month make a currrent copy. If needed you have the current. If something goes wrong, like your current has a virus. You have the one you put away, no more installs.
