This happens when XP doesn't recognise you hdd controller, you will need to find your controller drivers and load them from floppy when XP says something at the bottom of the screen about pressing F6 to load storage drivers.

can you elaborate please

You will need to go to your motherboard manufacturers website, and then download the OEM driver disk for XP. This could be labelled as any of the following:
  • XP OEM Install Drivers
  • Windows XP F6 Driver
  • XP Install Drivers
  • etc...
These will have to be extracted/copied onto a 1.44MB floppy disk. When you first begin the XP installer, pay attenion to the bottom of the screen, where you will see a message that say "Press F6 if you need to install a 3rd party driver" (or something similar to that). Press F6 at the right time, and XP will prompt you to insert the driver disk you downloaded. If all is well, it will install the driver needed to see the hard disks, and you can continue the installation of XP.
