So I'm receiving an installation disk of Windows 7 Home Premium from Dell. However, my school is selling Win7 Pro 64 bit and I'd prefer that, so I'm going to purchase that.

Since I'm buying that (for $40), I'd like to know if I can clean install Win7 on my friend's laptop, even if he was running Windows XP (32 bit). It's just a normal clean install, right? No problems with 32 to 64 bit?

Yes. The prior operating system does not matter during a clean install. In fact, prior OS doesn't even need to be installed (except in the case of upgrades which there are workarounds for anyway).

All of my systems still run fastest on XP 32-bit for the most part. Win7 is fun to play with, but I still prefer XP for raw speed, security, and functionality.
Ok, sounds good! Thank you!
