Solved Win10 blocking security updates

Specs: Compaq Presario C62 laptop - purchased 2011
3 GB ram - 300 gb HD (mostly unused)
Malwarebytes, Malware Anti-exploit and BitDefender - all up to date
I ran a check disk yesterday and it came up without any issues. Is there somewhere that has a log file that I can see the results of this more in depth. The results seem to come up quickly and I don't know where to go to find them.
My problem: Win10 update has parked itself in the windows update section and will not allow me to update my security files unless I start its download. I did a system restore back to Jul 22 thinking that would get rid of it but to no avail. It is still in my update section. I do not want to put this on my system yet as everyone says might be better to wait for bugs to work out. I cannot get online without all of these security updates so must do something to recover the pc.
My question: Should I do a system recovery or a factory reset or are they the same? I can boot into windows 7 without a problem. I am a middle pc user - not newbie but not advanced either so this all kind of make me nervous....Thanks in advance for any thoughts or help.

Hello mate have you tried the 10 forum for this one? Go to the top of the page join up same folks as here - copy /paste your thread query and they will be better off helping you.

Hi - thanks for looking. All is straightened out now as I did a factory reset and wiped out the 10 which ws not installed. It just wanted to be - I did try to install it to get around its blocking of my wu but it failed in installation. Thanks again.

Ok mate I personally don't think until someone convinces me that 10 is better I shall be using it much - 7 is just so simple to use and I like it that way.

Look for what it is worth I am not overly keen on what I have seen 10 doing - 7 is so much simpler to use and to be honest I don't like some of the features like no choice in what updates one can install to name but one

So if you are happy with 7 stay with it and like myself until they can prove to me that 10 is so much better and easy to use and personally that is going to be a long time coming.

If you still want to try 10 why not do what I did and clone the 7 drive and swap in the clone and install 10 then you can always go back to the new install,

In the meantime have a look at this to make 7 better if you do not mind losing some of the "bling" like transparency
