Solved Win7 64 Pro BSOD - ntoskrnl.exe & cmdguard.sys

Hi Folks - hope you can give me some help deciphering why I am getting a BSOD from these two files:

ntoskrnl.exe (3 crashes)
cmdguard.sys (1 crash)

I just upgraded my PSU, video card, and ram.

The PSU is an Thermaltake 850 W Smart M850W Power Supply, more than double the 400w Dell supply before.

The new video card is a XFX ATI Radeon R6670 Core Edition 2GB DDR3 PCI Express 2.1. It seems to be running cool at 38C according the the Catalyst drivers (12.8). I used the atiman uninstall app before I installed the new card & pulled the new drivers from the site. No install errors noted.

The new ram is 2 PNY 4GB Chips of Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1067MHz. I did a ramtest with the Win Memory Diagnostic last night and it found no errors.

I also ran the windows disk checker last night on thorough and it passed all tests as well.

Tempted to think it's the video card, but I don't have any evidence i can see.

I also uninstalled/reinstalled my AV (Avast) too. My last BSOD was generated during a defrag cycle.

Logs attached. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

► Gone through your crash dumps, nothing interesting is found there. Some Bugchecks 50 and 3B and 19, with no specific cause.

In such a situation, it is the best way to enable Driver Verifier to monitor all the third party drivers.

► I will also suggest you to uninstall a few programs from your computer.

• TuneUp Utilities 2011 : Must to uninstall. It does not tune anything up in windows 7, but Tunes many a thing down. In your case, registry cleaned system service is causing some problems. (Once I also Upgraded to that version of TuneUp. It was my Fav program during XP days. I have installed it, still. Use it to change LogOn Screen only, lol) Use CCleaner. Far better, and free.
• Comodo Firewall : Not a problem always, but in your system it is causing trouble. Avast Pro Antivirus is enough.
• Paragon Drive Backup: Can it be temporarily removed when the tests are running?

► Update your Intel(R) PRO/1000 PCI Express Network Connection Driver. Search it in Download Center.

Here's what I did so far:

• Turned on the driver verifier as directed
• Uninstalled TuneUp Utilities 2011 (too bad i paid for it)
• Installed and ran CCleaner
• Uninstalled Comodo Firewall (paid for this too, grr)

I left the Paragon Drive Backup program installed in case there was a major problem.

Updated the the Intel(R) PRO/1000 PCI Express Network Connection Driver and updated the 82566 based Network Controller(OEM) controller driver as well.

I had one BSOD on bootup (screenshot attached), but everything seems to be running well for now. I'll let it burn in for a few more hours.

Looks like your USB Gaming device drivers. Remove and Uninstall Hardware and driver

I think that may have been a one time thing when I put new intel drivers on the MB. System seems stable now, have run the defrag, full VS, and the malware bytes without any issues.

Hi Everyone - I just encountered another BSOD. I was un-checking an add on in IE9 (the Avast Web Rep) when the system BSOD on me. I am attaching a new copy of the zip file and a screenshot of the bsod message.

Better you use Microsoft Security Essentials - Free Antivirus for Windows replacing Avast.
Avast is very good, but MSE never cause a problem at all.

And, were you synchronized with your Apple Mobile Device that time? If so, stop it, too.

After doing these two, if it crashes again, you may need to run Driver Verifier again, for at least 24 hours or the occurrence of the next crash, whichever is earlier.

Hi folks - I thought I had figured out what the problem was & changed cards. I was running a PCIE 2.1 card in a 2.0 slot, so I've changed to a 2.0 card (VisionTek 900339 Radeon HD 6850 - 1024MB, GDDR5, PCI-Express 2.0 Video Card).

I removed all of the drivers before I installed the card even running the Driver Fusion tool. I just got a BSOD & ran the SF tool. The crash occured while using IE9 at this website:

Have you enabled driver verifier again?

Your last crash is stop19, with the probable cause Pool_Corruption.
