Win7 64Bit crashes with 6Gig Ram, but OK with 5Gig

i recently upgraded to Win7 after Xp finally gave up on my (suspected worm...) anywho

so far, lots of problems with the fun of 64bit :D one of which being that my PC seems to give up on me as soon as it reached the Windows 7 loading screen with 6 gig of ram .... now if i take out a stick of 1 gig ram or more.. it runs absolutely fine...

any reasons why it would be failing on 6 gig??? the ram is 100% not corrupt so its not that... anyhelp would be great

PC specs attached .... just hit me that i may need to update my MB drivers......

Good place to start update everything. Dont overclock, do a backup in case.

dl and run memtestx86 and run for several hours to verify your ram

Yep fails like taht are ofter either a video driver, a raid problem, or HD.

Try This see if you can boot into safe mode (F8) if it works then I suspect video driver.

Let us know

I has a similar problem, it was caused by the BIOS. With 2gm it loaded fine, with 4gb it wouldn't load. I changed the BIOS and the 4gb loaded without problems. I have an INTEL board and INTEL BIOS.

Using mismatched sticks doesn't always work too well with those boards. The only way you can put 6GB into the 680i is by using unmatched memory sticks. Of course bumping up the NB voltage and the dimm voltage a bit would help, or if you loosen up the timings a notch it might help..

There are lots of tricks for making memory work on those boards but you will be using the bios settings to make it stable.

Using matched sticks gives you the best chance of success. More important is the type of memory you use. Some work better in the 680i than others.
