I am at my wits end. I have scoured these forums and others in hopes of finding a tip or two (or twelve), and nothing I try seems to fix my situation. I beg for help from you guys.

here is my situation. I can post other info that you might need to help me trouble shoot, i am no pro with this so I am unsure what exactly would help you help me.

problem: my wife's computer continually loses connection to the internet.

I have a win 7 machine, a nintendo wii, a laptop set up but never on the network, and a new XP running computer for the kids upstairs, and my wife's problematic XP computer. i have a four channel wireless modem with cable internet.

I have had us networked together for a year or so with no problems what so ever - file sharing, printer sharing, streaming media from one computer to the next. everything was golden. then i built a new computer for the kids upstairs and networked it into the internet.

Since then, my wife's computer randomly drops internet. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn't. Rebooting, or re-setting up the network will generally fix this issue.

I have tried permanently disabling her firewall, assigning her a static IP, repairing connection, changing ethernet cables, completely removing the laptop from the network (removing its wireless card), changing to a newly named workgroup, and pulling what little hair i have remaining on my head out. nothing seems to work.

but after thinking long and hard about it, we are confident it started when i hooked up the computer upstairs. before that everything was fine.

any and all help would be greatly appreciated. and any extra info i should give, just let me know. thank you.

1. You may have tried this already, but have you removed the new computer to see if the problem goes?
2. What is your network configuration? As in what devices do you have , how are they connected and are you using static or DHCP?

1. I just disabled the network card int he upstairs computer, we will see what that does.

2. Do you mean what type of gear as in make and model of my modem and wireless router? And I believe I am using DHCP because when I tried to use a static connection, the computer refused to connect to the internet even after a reboot.

and thanks!!

make and model is not important.
I mean whats connected, like: cable - wifi router - computer. Like that
