Hi guys,
Just wondering if anybody knows if microsoft will release a UPGRADE version of windows 7 like they did with VISTA(e.g windows home premium upgrade)?

As with the upgrade dvd for vista , u can install an evaluation copy and then upgrade from that. Does anybody know if we will be able to do that again? As it worked out alot cheaper LOL

Cheers
Dan

At this time there is no official word on exactly what will be released!
But I'm sure they will offer this upgrade as they did with Vista & you are right, it is the best cheapest way of getting the FULL retail OS! :p

At the very least you should be able to save 1/3 (or more) that of the original full retail price upgrading to the upgrade disk.

Well, they WILL BE an UPGRADE version... FOR SURE.... But I don't know about the tip that you said will work or not in 7. In Vista it works (i heard about that).

Instead of installing Windows TWICE, why not just buy an OEM copy of Windows.. FOR VISTA: Its on par or slightly cheaper than the upgrade. But you don't get MS support...
FYI: In my country, they only sell OEM copy... no UPGARDE/RETAIL copy... I asked the shop where the f is the RETAIL copy, they say: Sorry, we don't sell...
Another catck is you can't switch computers and expect the OEM key will work... It won't. But you can try MS phone activation....

ALSO: About the Vista upgrade hack: Just install Windows without product key, Once its done installing, run th setup.exe from the DVD, insert your product key>YOU DON'T need to select UPGARDE, just click 'Custom(ADVANCED)'> installl.... Don't worry as long as you run the setup from Windows and insert your key, but select Clean Install, it will still activate

Yeah, well, to make the comparison, when I switched from XP to Vista x64 Ultimate over 2 years ago, I had the choice: Retail for R4500, or OEM for R2000 (at the exchange rates of the time, about $450 and $200 apiece), so I went with Vista x64 Unbranded OEM.

I was forced to change my motherboard about a year later, and automatic activation would not work, so I used the phone option. I continued to use my Vista for another year before switching to Windows 7...

It's also help if you either work for a company that's builds computers, or know someone who does and is willing to help. Generally, OEM copies can only be bundled with complete computers, but I've never let that stop me.

OEM is always the best option, especially now, since Windows 7 is literally the most stable and problem free Windows I've ever had the pleasure of working with, so the loss of Microsoft telephone support is no biggie...
