Hi, I am trying to fix a computer for someone.

It is an HP Pavilion dm3 Entertainment PC running Windows 7 Home 64-Bit. The computer had several problems with it so I did a system restore that is built into a recovery partition. The install went fine, but then when it was loading in the 2nd time... it locked on Personalized Settings: Microsoft Windows Media Player.

The problem I am having is that the laptop does not have a CD drive so I cannot put in a Windows 7 disc and run a chkdsk /r.

I can log in to the machine if I go into safemode with networking. Is there anything there I can do to fix this?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Try rebooting to tap F8 repeatedly, see if Repair console is on the Advanced Boot Tools menu.

If so run Startup Repair which automates all the tests and fixes. See if that will start it. If not try System Restore from the http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/668-system-recovery-options.html

If not, I would write the Win7 DVD ISO to flash stick: Install UltraISO, on File tab open the ISO, on BOotable tab Write Disk Image, Format, Write. Boot under USB or HD"s using one-time BIOS BOot Menu key. Now maybe the Repair will work better. If not try System Restore to an earlier point.

If it starts and still has performance problems, here are tips for troubleshooting to get to the problems, including if necessary running a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R from the flash stick or from the extracted ISO files.
