I'm building a new PC for my wife, I have a 2TB HDD and I want to setup a primary Partition of about 100Gig for the OS and the balance as a Big data drive.

I want all the data to automatically goto the "D" partition. I used to do this all the time, now I have employees that do it and I gave them all off till the 3rd of January and its been too long since I did this.

I own a Computer Co we have a multi-user OEM license from Microsoft as a reseller and I know we have a utility (or used to) to make a Pre-Install CD to setup a computer as the install automatically continued unattended.

I want everything to goto the D Partition of the HDD that needs to be setup my wife isn't really computer literate so I don't want to require her to have to change settings whenever she downloads files or installs programs.

I sure would appreciate some assistance from anyone. This is really embarrassing I'm one of the first 100 Microsoft OEM's and had Action Pack since they started. But I'm committed to not calling one of my employees during their time off.

Thanks in advance for your assistance, This is her Christmas Present, and I'm stuck.

Hello there, Tom!

What you want to do is that the path to the folders Images, Music, Downloads, Documents and everything leads to the D: partition??

Click on Properties of each folder you want to move to the D: partition, look for "Location" tab and set the new path to it.

IE: D:\My Documents, D:\Music

And that's it.. :D

Nice present.

Boot the installer to Custom install using Drive Options to make your partitions, format and install. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html

Install Programs to OS partition, move the active User folders to the Data drive using this method: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/18629-user-folders-change-default-location.html

Some install tips for getting a purrfect consumer install:

The installer is mostly driver-complete, with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/w...-your-hardware Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your model computer or device.

Install updates and then programs slowly over time to gauge performance after each. Don't let any programs write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU and can spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1401-startup-programs-change.html

Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials which works perfectly with Windows 7 Firewall. http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

When it is finished, clean and order the HD perfectly using state-of-the-art free CCleaner then Auslogics Disk and Registry defraggers monthly. http://download.cnet.com/ccleaner/
Auslogics Disk Defrag - Reviews and free Auslogics Disk Defrag downloads at Download.com

Then save a Win7 Backup image externally so you never have to reinstall again, just reimage the HD or replacement using DVD or Repair CD. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/663-backup-complete-computer-create-image-backup.html
