Cheers guys,

One short question, related to my Asus S400CA laptop. It has a hybrid drive with 2 parts, a 24 GB SSD and a bigger HDD. As far as I read, the SSD is used for caching. As SO, it was provided with Win8 preinstalled, however I wanted to switch to Win7.

Now, the question is: can I perform a clean win 7 install on the SSD? Or should I use the normal HDD for this.

Actually it is a postfactum question, since I tried this already.
It did it via external dvd drive, but after install finishes, at first reboot it does not boot into windows. It just stays in a loop between the ASUS splashscreen and a black screen with a cursor blinking in upper left corner.
(secure boot disabled of course). Looks like it cannot find the SO from the SSD, even if in BIOS I selected the SSD as boot option #1.

Thanks for help.

We have helped users install on the 24gb SSD which is normally used by a paging file. This requires booting the Win7 installation media using DVD or flash stick, deleting all partitions shown, then formatting new ones to choose the 24gb for install.

You'll then want to install only the OS and your most important programs on the SSD, minimize the paging file to 2gb, move the User folders to the HDD: User Folders - Change Default Location

If this is a Windows 8 PC then you'll first need to enter BIOS setup to turn off Secure boot, decide if you want UEFI BIOS vs. Legacy BIOS - YouTube. For UEFI boot the installer as a EFI device, follow UEFI (Unified Extensible Firmware Interface) - Install Windows 7 with - Windows 7 Forums. For Legacy you'll Bypass UEFI to Install WIn7

Greg,
If the PC has 4 GB or less RAM wouldn't 32 Bit be better for this, as it uses less space than 64 Bit ?
