Win7 MBR "Ghost" Entries on Boot Up

A friend of mine has tried 3 times to install Windows 7 onto a 2nd partition of his WinpXP machine, all resulting in a BSOD at around 60% of the installation, now when he boots up his WinXP he has 1 x WinXP option and 3 x Win7 options to boot into but the Win7 options are duds of course because the installations failed.
How does he go about removing those "ghost" entries from the MBR upon boot up?
My friend lives 1400 kms away from me so I can't just drive over there and help him out even if I knew how.
P.S. There is nothing on the partition now as he has formatted it. We have also looked the Boot.ini file with Notepad and there is nothing in there but the WinXP entry.

Sounds nice that it is solved. But reinstallation is not required.
Download EasyBCD and install it (but for in xp, install dotnet framework 2 earlier). Using it, the unneeded boot entries can be easily deleted, and necessary boot entries may be added.

You can also remove boot menu ghost entries in msconfig>Boot tab.
Easiest way in this case would be: fdisk /mbr
