I am using Office XP on my Windows 7 machine and am constantly getting nagged about installing an update for it that I don't want. If I uncheck the update and click OK I just get nagged again about it. With XP you could check a box after refusing an update and didn't have to worry about constantly getting reminded of it. Is there a way to do this in Windows 7?

It really is good to install all updates, that one may be important. Install it.

You can just right click on the update when it's high lighted in blue, then choose to "hide update", it won't show up again after that. :)

Those updates show up but won't install if you already have a better driver or update installed. So unless you hide them they will keep bugging you.

go to c:\windows\system32\ and change the catroot2 folder to catroot2.old

if it does not pop up anymore you can delete the catroot2.old folder cause another catroot2 folder will auto generate anyway after you restart.

I have that problem with optional updates. I don't want the whole "Windows Live" package with "Windows Live Mail", and "Live Photos", and all that other junk.

I'll have to try your suggestion when I get home. If it works, +rep for you. :p
