Set HDD first to boot in BIOS setup, trigger DVD to boot first time using One-time BIOS Boot Menu key. Don't boot DVD after first reboot during http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/1649-clean-install-windows-7-a.html.

Durings Steps 7/8 of blue link tutorial, delete all partitions not needed including the intended Win7 partition, create and format New for install. If you're intending to Dual Boot XP on the same HD, leave it's partition intact. Back up all data ahead of time.
