Win7 OEM disk new HD install. What do I need?

I installed the Win7 on the new HD.



Elvin posted this and I know now that I should have done this to restore the image on the new drive.
This was not an option on the tutorials I searched. So I didn't know to do it.

So I learned something new for next time.

EVERYTHING is now installed on the new drive now.

I just downloaded from scratch and now have my Win7/XP partitioned with EasyBCD so life is good.

I unplugged the old drive for now. Powered off, data and power cable unplugged.

Old HD still has everything on it. So I have a completely loaded HD as a "back-up" at the moment.
Unplug the new if it croaks and plug in the old.
I'm going to use this HD for a few days to make sure there is no problem.
Then I'll reformat the old one for storage and slap an image of the new HD on it.


My lack of knowledge caused the initial Win7 problem by installing it instead of loading the image as in the above picture.

We have the situation resolved though I would not do it this way again.

I learned the correct way for next time.

You can always come back to the forums in the middle of an operation that isn't going as planned, providing of course you have an internet connection from your phone or another p.c. I helped walk a guy through laptop reinstall one night using his gamebox connection.

The installer is mostly driver complete with newer arriving quickly via optional Windows Updates. Any drivers then missing in Device Manager can be found on the Support Downloads webpage for your computer or device.

Install programs slowly over time to gauge performance changes. Don't allow them to write themselves into msconfig>Startup as they become freeloaders on your RAM/CPU at all times and can spy on you. I only allow AV and gadgets.

Use a lightweight free AV like MS Security Essentials with Windows Firewall.

When it is finished, clean and order the HD perfectly with free state-of-the-art CCleaner and Auslogics Disk and REgistry defaggers monthly. Save a Win7 backup image so you never have to reinstall again.
