Win7 RC problem, same as the other builds :(

I'm still having this problem with the RC that was in build 7077, etc. I had OC'd and the computer locked up and wouldn't get power to the usb/mouse/keyboard/monitor and all and I thought it was the OC, but I reset CMOS and it's all back to stock and now I started Win7 up and used it and then went away and come back and it's happened again. Computer is still running but there's no power to usb/mouse/keyboard/monitor/nothing. Just the fans on and such.

Why is this happening? It's not even overclocked since I reset it. Could it be temps overheating or what? I usually get ~46C on coretemp at idle w/o OCing it. God, if this is going to happen all the time than I'm not buying it or my SSD :(.

Someone help me please :(

EDIT: If anyone remembers, I had this problem back in 7077 64bit. Couldn't solve it then either. And I thought it was my OC. Maybe my 3.9ghz OC was ok (it passed a long stress test) but when just idling it'll go to sleep and this happens :(.

No, it is more than that, obviously, Bryce.

Not sure *what* is going on, but you've got some sort of incompatibility somewhere, and something is not working right.

one thing - did you reset the BIOS and *then* install Win 7?

I installed Win7 on another partition and then OC'd. Then it happened once and I thought it was the OC so I reset the CMOS. Booted fine and then it went to sleep after a while and boom happened again.

I've installed only the Win7 64bit drivers from Asus's site, which I'll never buy Asus again lol.

That's getting a bit far fetched - one bad experience should not have you blaming the company already.

however, your install was before the OC, then you OC'd - I'd be interested in seeing what an install *without* OC and *leaving the OC off* would do....

And I cannot stress enough how much you ***really really really*** need to test your hardware.

I have my Quad Core 660 OC'd 33% (from 2.4 to 3.321) 24/7/365 and even under 100% load on all 4 cores these things never break 60 degrees C, and idling they run well below that - like around high 30s.

If you're running mid 40s *without* an OC< I'd seriously suggest you look at the possibility that your cooler is not efficient enough, or is not getting enough airflow through the case, or is misaligned on your CPU....

So it could just be a overheating issue then? I am on the stock cooler, heatsink, fans, new case coming in a few days though. I'll also be re-managing the cables for better airflow. I'll see what happens then.

I'm also going to be reinstalling with just Win7 and run it w/o an OC and see how it does. If it doesn't do it, then I'll OC again and see what I'm at.

My recommendation - run it for a *solid* week and test the hell out of it - OCCT, Prime95 / Prime64, etc - do some heavy testing *without* the OC - after a week of testing if it survives, then OC ***slowly*** - not just all out back to what it was before.

It could be an over heat issue, an over volting / undervolting issue, flaky RAM, flaky PSU, ....

the list goes on and on - you have to figure it out.

Mine has issues at not liking any OC on my CPU above 3321 - although when I first built it it loved me at 3375. But, my mobo does not officially support 1000 MHz RAM, it supports 800 and 1200 (not up to 1200 as I thought) and I think that is a major factor...

but if I leave it at 3321 and 1000 for the RAM, and don't over volt anything, and don't lay with GTRLEF voltages or 8anything* like that, it runs as stable as a server class machine.

I'll do that then and see what happens. I'll be modding my case so I'll just leave it off to torture test while working on the test.

Oh, and one more thing. This OC works flawless in Vista x64. I've had it running at 3.9ghz for about a week before I switched to Win7 and never had any kind of hiccup =/

Have you tried to change when the computer sleeps?, it's set at 10mins as default and that would disable things like your experiancing.

Control panel/ power options/ change when the computer sleeps

I didn't mean when it sleeps. That's disabled. But you know how after a long period LCDs auto turn off/sleep or something like that. That's when it does it.
