Hi Everyone,

I have a HP machine (DV6000) with win7 pro installed. I got the install from download when MS had the student sale.
The problem is I never received a win7 disk, but I did make a recovery disk which seems to not work for what I want.

I'm trying to set my machine back to factory defaults. I want a fresh install of win7; is that possible?
If there is a guide somewhere to help I would appreciate a link. I've looked online for guidance, but what I've found doesn't work.
Thanks

Factory defaults would restore the OS which the machine came with. Is that what you want? If so run HP Recovery partition from boot..

If you want to clean reinstall Win7 here are the steps to get a purrfect reinstall: http://www.sevenforums.com/installation-setup/125874-re-install-windows-7-a.html#post1086729

MS made good on Digital River not initially providing an ISO with the Student Deal here.

You can clean reinstall with your Win7 upgrade installer by leaving the Product Key blank during install, then after install doing the quick registry workaround given here to allow use of Upgrade version on a blank HD: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/31402-clean-install-upgrade-windows-7-version.html

If you previously did an inferior in-place Upgrade of Win7 from Vista you may still be able to make your Vista Recovery Disks before wiping the HD to clean reinstall Win7. This will also wipe away all of the useless HP factory utilities which have better versions built into Win7.

If you only want to reinstall an in-place Upgrade you could try running a http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/3413-repair-install.html?ltr=R but this may transfer over corruption imported from Vista anyway.

Your best bet is to finally wipe away all of the HP bloatware by zeroing the HD to clean reinstall which is better than getting a new computer with the bloatware larded on today.

Hello ronnie222, welcome to Seven Forums!

If you really want to try and restore to factory default, here's the HP steps below to recover from the factory recovery partition if it's still on the PC; be sure to post back with any further questions you may have and to keep us informed.

   Information

HP Recovery Center

Be advised that this will take the machine back to the point when you first took it of the box.
The "HP Recovery Center" will give you the option to send to backup anything you
don't want to lose, so have backup media available to use if you choose this option.

With the machine off press the power button, as soon as you do that start tapping the F11 key.

It may take several attempts to do this, if the first attempt fails, try again.

That should take you to the HP Recovery Center. When there just follow the prompts.

It is pretty much self explanatory. From the time you boot into F11 (not counting
any backups you choose to make) you should be back on a working desktop in about
30 minutes. After it restarts just follow the prompts again to finish the process.

If your first option is system restore select no, which should take you to system recovery.
