Win7 repair (in-place upgrade): compatibility check fails to see x64

Hi,

I have several corrupted system files that System File Checker cannot repair and everything points me toward repairing my installation using the upgrade option, so I don't have to make a clean install.

Problem is that the compatibility check says I can't upgrade towards an x64 version, despite my system already being x64 (checked in configuration panel, also has Program Files (x86) and SysWOW64 folders).
Some of the corrupted files might make that check fail and prevent the reparation. If I'm using another DVD, it outright says that Windows 7 Professional cannot be upgraded to Windows 7 Professional, despite it being the very one DVD I used to install my system. (but I'd rather use the .ISO that contains SP1 with it)

I'm in search for a solution to pass that compatibility check so I can run the repair-upgrade.

Gives you confirmation I'm actually using Win7 Pro x64 with SP1.

If you already have SP-1 installed you will need a media which includes SP-1 to do what is explained in this tutorial by Brink.

If you have a COA key for a OEM System Builders or a Retail Windows 7 Pro this site may or may not work for the ISO. I have read reports both ways.

Thanks for the input:

1. I have indeed an ISO with SP1 included. I'm making sure it's the same version I currently use and the compatibility check error (32 vs 64 bits) makes no sense.

2. I get an error on Microsoft site to get the ISO, says my product key is not supported. It's an MSDNAA key I got in 2009, it activated without problem for the few installs/reinstalls I made in the past years, so I don't understand why I can't get that ISO, and even then, wouldn't be guaranteed to pass the compatibility check for a repair.

I know very little about the rules using a MSDNAA key. The rules keep changing.

Don't post your key. Just answer this question (Yes or No)

Is this the key you are using for your Windows 7 Pro.

That sounds right, you need to get those from a different source. (Technet, etc.)

Sounds like I can forget about getting a clean ISO from Microsoft then, and my problem still remains regardless since using the ISO I have since August 2009 (which I'm sure was provided by Microsoft) doesn't change the result.

If you need to find your installed product key installed on machine use VB script attached.

Make sure you copy the 25 character product key exactly. I write 5 characters down, skip line, write 5 characters down, etc. and double/triple check it.

If repair install won't work, try compatibility mode; right-click DVD, choose open, right-click Setup.exe, check checkbox use compatibility mode: choose Vista.

I do repair installs all the time.

If you can't get ISO from M$ I have AIO (all-in-one all versions available) ISO you can download from my Google Drive account. Can provide you with SHA1 hash to check download integrity. Originally downloaded it from previous official Microsoft download site Digitial River, which is now defunct. Hedoc or however you spell it. Don't think you can download ISO from there anymore, I haven't checked recently however.

Thanks for the post wben. Your attached file confirms I use the right Windows key, which is not supported by the download center (MSDNAA key).

I have already tried the compatibility mode tip. I'm on Win7 SP1, I tried compatibility mode for Win7 and Vista, both yield the same result and fail the compatibility check for the upgrade.

I don't know if the .ISO I'm using is the reason since I never had trouble before, but as you proposed to share your AIO version, I might as well try it.

I am wondering if it is possible to edit the registry so that my current installed version appears compatible. It was in the past and is just broken because of corrupted system files.
