After a clean reinstall, does it matter HOW or in which order I run updates?

I've noticed that if I leave everything to 'Windows Updates', then loads of updates are downloaded and installed BEFORE SP1 is, and it takes MUCH longer.

However, I have redistributable download of SP1. Is it okay to install that straight after the new DVD installation of Windows? That makes things much quicker.

Welcome to Seven Forums mate.
When I do this I let Windows Update (WU) install but I deselect some so I only install 4-5 at one time. It take much longer but works out better. SP1 has some pre-requisite updates before it will be offered and must be installed alone.

If I recall the stand alone SP1 is for deployment across a network.
