I go through this every time I reinstall Win7, but can't seem to find the cure this time.
This issue deals with WMP mostly, and how it displays in the taskbar.
WMP opens from the taskbar icon OK, but the problem starts when I either click the assigned button on my MS keyboard (Messenger reassigned to WMP) or double-click a video file.
One option will open WMP under the pinned icon, while the other option opens a completely separate instance. If I unpin the first one and then pin the second one, the same thing happens in reverse. Only one instance of WMP is ever open.
