Hi There,

Creating a new thread to summarise my issues and also include a more descriptive title.

As the title says, I am having problems with my Windows 7 64 bit install with the system constantly freezing or generating BSOD.

To troubleshoot I have done the following:

1. Updated all drivers to use the most recent versions (checked with DriverMax)
2. Updated the motherboard BIOS
3. Ran memtest68+ for 16 hours with no issues reported
4. Ran the windows memory test with no issues reported
5. Using verifier - only stressing non-microsoft drivers - obtained freezes and BSOD
6. Using verifier - only stressing microsoft drivers - obtained freezes and BSOD

System is not overclocked and to the best of my ability I have configured the BIOS to match the system requirements yet it seems to crash / BSOD regardless of basic or optomized settings.

What I can replicate

1. When the system crashes / BSOD every time the reboot will get through the initial boot screen then display the message 'Loading operating system'. At this point, I get a single flashing cursor as the system locks. A hard reset then boots up successfully into the Windows boot menu where I 'Start Windows normally'.

2. I cannot seem to run sfc /scannnow if I have my onboard sound enabled? It stops prior to completion with the message 'Windows Resource Protection could not perform the requested operation.'. If I disable onboard sound within the BIOS sfc /scannnow completes without any issues.

Other than the above two scenarios it all seems pretty random! I am pulling my hair out with this one and really hope there is someone out there who has experienced something similar or can point me in the right direction for what I can check next.

I have attached 15 minidumps from the last week, some are verfier enabled and I can most likely generate more verifier enabled logs if this would help.

HArdware details in my sig.

Thanks in advance!
Marcus

And update the bios to latest.

Thanks GuaranT,

To be double sure I have re-installed both the wireless KB and Mouse drivers with the latest 64 bit win7 versions from microsoft, file version on NuidFltr.sys remains at 7.0.258.0 and is part of this driver suite so not sure if there is another version out there.

BIOS is version F4 from the gigabyte website but I have reflashed this using the actual BIOS update rather than the software one and I think my first flash may not have used the most recent version as it looked to be F2 prior to my update today. Confirmed it is now F4 so I will let you know how it goes.

edit: the BIOS has no plug and play OS setting, apparently this is automatic in the GA-P55

Many thanks.

Well almost two weeks and no BSOD until today... :(

I was getting the occasional freeze where everything just locked up, maybe 1 every two days but not sure how I can log what that my be. Everything just freezes..

I am hoping it has something to do with the attached BSOD.

Greatly appreciate the communities opinion!

~Thanks Again.

Looks like it's caused by your ATI video driver - atikmdag.sys

Please do the following:
- download the latest ATI Display Driver (NOT the entire Catalyst Control Center package - just the display driver) from Advanced Micro Devices Inc.
- uninstall all the ATI stuff on your system using Control Panel...Programs...Uninstall a program
- install the display driver that you downloaded
- check to see if you get further BSOD's

Hi Irtiza,

I got to the bottom of the issue with my machine, it was apparently the due to the way 64 bit win7 was using my 6gb of RAM - I had 3x2GB Corsair - TR3X6G1600C8 matched installed into a GBYTE GA-P55A-UD3 all sticks are fine but with all three in, Win7 has 'issues'.... Running just 2 matched sticks (or 4 i believe) fixes the issue and not one blue screen since.

MS may have corrected the problem as many people have reported it but for me the difference between 4 and 6 gig was minimal so I just kept the spec at 4gig and it has not missed a beat since.

Regards.

thanks for the reply man...

meaning that I have 3GB memory so either I can switch to 2 or 4 then only I can use Ultimate properly???

As I have 3Gb and if I remove 1 Gb it will slow my machine :(

Is this the only way to resolve this issue?

Thanks again man.

Hi Irtiza,

Try removing 1 of the three sticks so you are only using one matched pair, I would imagine this will stop the BSOD's but 2gig is not really enough for win7.

Mind you, 1gig stick of ram is dirt cheap these days so if you can upgrade to 2 match pairs filling all slots on the motherboard this will give you 4gig (same as me) and will run just fine.

Hope this helps.

Regards.

I have been having this problem for such a long time with Windows 7 professional 64-bit.

I have 3x2g of Corsair RAM for a total of 6 gig. Is only having 4gig the only course of action? Because I do use up my RAM quite a bit. Taking 2gig off would probably hamper my computer's performance, but these freezes are quite annoying.
